“Do you know, that we as an industry were vilified?"

Karan Johar revealed who he would cast in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai if the film were to be made today.

The seventh season of his talk show premiered on July 7, 2022, on Disney+ Hotstar.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai marked Karan’s directorial debut. The hit film featured a love triangle between Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan), his best friend Anjali (Kajol) and their friend Tina (Rani Mukerji).

The film was released in 1998 and went on to win Best Film, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress at the Filmfare Awards.

Karan was asked which actors he would cast in the iconic roles if the film were to be remade.

He said: “I would say Ranveer (Singh), Alia (Bhatt) and Janhvi (Kapoor).

“Alia would play Kajol’s role, Janhvi would play the hottie role – Rani from college – and Ranveer would be Shah Rukh.”

Karan Johar went on to talk about what kind of film he would make for his children.

He said: “I think kids are so much more evolved today that I would not just make it for them.

“I would just make a happy film because kids should be exposed to only happiness.”

Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh were the guests on the premiere of Koffee With Karan 7.

The trio spoke about how Bollywood is vilified.

Karan Johar said: “Do you know, that we as an industry were vilified? We were absolutely put into the dungeon for two years.

“And a lot even I went through. And it was not an easy time.

“And at that point of time, it was like the snake emojis used to come out every time Koffee With Karan was mentioned.”

“And at one point in time, I also thought that I am never going to come back with this show, because there was a lot of attack and where you were in those two years, I am not quite sure.”

Ranveer replied, saying that he knew there would be more new series of Koffee With Karan.

The actor said: “I had no doubt and I have no doubt that you will continue to do more and more seasons of this show because all of that is just baseless, and unfair, and unwarranted.”

Karan agreed and said that trolls would either call him ‘GayJo’ or use a snake emoji for him.

He added: “Which part of me feels or seems like a snake, I don’t know. And I want to tell everyone I am far from one, in fact, I am far from one.”

Karan Johar returns to directing with Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. The 2023 release stars Alia and Ranveer.
