"We had bad tummies, our bodies were broken"
Janhvi Kapoor opened up about the intimate scenes in Mr & Mrs Mahi, admitting that she and co-star Rajkummar Rao felt “dead” when filming them.
The film sees the pair brought together by an arranged marriage.
Having the same nickname, Mahi, they become Mr and Mrs Mahi.
They soon discover their common love for cricket.
Eventually, Mahendra spots cricketing talent in his wife and encourages her to chase her dream of becoming a cricketer and coaches her on this journey.
During an AMA session on Reddit, Janhvi was asked about the film’s intimate scenes.
Revealing the reality of filming them, Janhvi said:
“Most of mine and Raj’s romantic moments in the movie, we were completely exhausted.
“Like I think one of our first romantic moments was after a 20-hour shift, and both of us were feeling like we were dead.
“We had bad tummies, our bodies were broken, and then we had to look like we were falling in love and we were going to have our first kiss.
“But really, we were feeling like we were dying inside.”
Discussing her reunion with Rajkummar, Janhvi said:
“During Roohi, we wanted to do more comedy, romantic and dramatic scenes with each other.
“We’ve got a chance to do all those things in this film. I’ve always been a fan of Rajkummar and honestly, he has made my work easier.
“Just like our characters, Mahima and Mahendra supported each other in the film, Rajkummar helped me exactly like that when we were shooting.
“He gave me strength and I believe I’ve become a better artist because of him.”
When asked which Bollywood star she would switch lives with for one day, Janhvi Kapoor picked Alia Bhatt and Vikrant Massey.
She elaborated: “I think my agenda for this would be to spend time on a film set with directors that I haven’t had the chance to work with yet.
“Just pick up, like… I don’t know… anecdotes, guidelines, and see how they direct the actors and hopefully learn from that, get all of the tips.
“I think it would be whichever actors were working with Karan (Johar) at the time, maybe like Alia (Bhatt) on Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, when she was shooting for Gangubai Kathiawadi, I think I would love to see how Sanjay (Leela Bhansali) Sir was directing her.
“I think I would want to spend time as Vikrant Massey while he was shooting for 12th Fail to see how that process went and pick up a few tips there.”
Mr & Mrs Mahi is set to release on May 31, 2024.
