“How far will we go to determine the notion of consensuality"
Bee Gul, a prominent figure in the field of Pakistani scriptwriting, has contributed her creative expertise to the upcoming short film Jamun Ka Darakht.
Teaming up with director Rafay Rasdi, the trailer invites viewers into the intricate aspects of consent between individuals, setting the stage for a thought-provoking cinematic experience.
Rafay, recognised for his directorial prowess, posed a complex question in his post where he detailed the importance of consent between two people.
Rafay shared the video with the caption:
“How far will we go to determine the notion of consensuality between a man and a woman?
“A choice is ever-present. The audience will be the arbitrator of the judgment.”
He ended the caption with a quote which read:
“Stains are even worse when you’re the only one who can see them – Gayle Forman.”
The trailer shows Adnan Siddiqui in a dark role where he indecently touches notably uncomfortable women.
Although Adnan’s character details remain unclear, the strong female ensemble gives a clue that the story is based on his manipulative and cunning ways.
The trailer tackles delicate subjects such as harassment, sexual assault and unrestrained desire that crosses boundaries without consent, ensuring an unsettling yet captivating viewing experience.
Bee Gul’s powerful dialogues intensify the unease, opening the door to a reflective and intensive cinematic odyssey.
Jamun Ka Darakht’s trailer emanates a deep and sombre atmosphere, which skilfully navigates complex and often distressing themes of harassment and sexual assault.
Rafay’s post has received praise and many fans have shown eagerness to watch the film.
One fan said: “This lighting looks sick! Can’t wait to see it.”
Another said: “Looks interesting. Where will it be available to watch in the US? Congrats!”
A third added:
“Congratulations and best wishes for your entire team.”
The short film boasts an ensemble cast featuring supermodels Maha Tahirani and Fouzia Aman.
It also stars Saman Ansari, Syeda Ramsha Nawal, Ahad Touqeer, Zara Usman, Yogeshwar Karera and Irfan Motiwala.
