Sister Girl

"The victim’s sister gave her to several men"

A 15-year-old girl in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh was allegedly drugged and pushed into the sex trade by her elder sister.

Police have arrested seven people, including the girl’s 20-year-old sister, her cousin and his two sons on December 20, 2020.

The accused have been arrested under section 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code as well as relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO).

Mukesh Shrivastava, Bhopal Superintendent of Police, said:

“The mother of the girl became upset due to the behaviour and drug addiction of her daughter, who is a class 10 student.

“The girl’s mother informed a child helpline of the girls behavioural and drug issues.

“She sent her to a shelter home in Bhopal in November 2020, where the victim received psychological counselling for a month.”

Srivastava added: “The victim shared her ordeal recently and told the counsellors that her sister pushed her into drugs and sex trade.

“The mother lodged a complaint against her eldest daughter at Gandhi Nagar Police Station with help of the helpline counsellors on December 19, 2020.”

In her statement registered with the police, the minor said she was raped for the first time in 2018 when she was just 13 years old.

Her sister, who works for a company in Indore, took her to an unknown place in Bhopal and gave her some cannabis.

The statement read: “Later, her sister left her alone with a man who raped her and paid her sister Rs. 2,000 (£20).

“The victim’s sister allegedly gave her to several men in exchange for money.”

The police reported that when the girl’s cousin came to know about her ordeal, he raped her too.

The mother said she was noticing major changes in her daughter’s behaviour, however, the victim refused to share anything.

In her report to the police, the girl’s mother stated:

“I asked her several times about the changes in her behaviour, but she just changed the topic every time.”

“She started going missing at all times of the day and night without telling me, and last month, I came to know about her drug addiction.

“I contacted the child helpline and sent her to a shelter for counselling and de-addiction.

“During counselling, she broke down and shared her ordeal.”

The minor’s father lives in Mumbai and she lives with her mother in Bhopal.

The police are investigating the matter further.
