"However, life had other plans for me."
An Indian woman shared how she remarried nearly 30 years after her first marriage ended, tying the knot with a man 20 years younger than her.
Geeta and Nikhil have been married for three years and document their relationship on Instagram, embracing their age gap.
She said: “We thought that the age gap might be an issue, but it didn’t stop us from getting closer to each other.
“Today, after three years of marriage, I can confidently say that age is just a number, and I am truly blessed to have Nikhil as my life partner.”
Geeta revealed that her first marriage of 28 years ended when her husband filed for divorce in December 2016.
He married another woman just one month later.
During this difficult time, she met Nikhil.
Geeta continued: “However, life had other plans for me. While volunteering for a social cause, I met Nikhil, who was already divorced.”
Nikhil helped her to resume a normal life and their bond grew stronger as they shared similar interests.
Geeta revealed that one day, she decided to tell Nikhil everything about her past.
They spoke for hours on the phone.
Their friendship turned to love but they did not express it due to their age gap.
Geeta said: “Nikhil, 20 years younger than me, helped me cope with my depression.
“We fell in love but never expressed it due to our age gap, so we decided to stay friends.”
Despite the age gap, Nikhil proposed to her. However, Geeta was hesitant due to the difference.
“But life surprised me when Nikhil proposed. I told him it wasn’t possible because of our age difference, but he didn’t care.”
Nikhil told his parents about Geeta but they quickly rejected her.
On the other hand, her family accepted Nikhil and were happy for her.
The Indian woman explained: “When Nikhil told his parents about us, they rejected me within seconds.
“Meanwhile, my family was easily convinced and happy for me.
“After years of convincing his parents, we finally applied for the registration of our marriage.
“Surprisingly, both our families joined us and became part of our celebration.”
The couple have now been married for three years and Geeta added:
“We love spending time together. In the end, age is just a number. As we celebrate our third anniversary, we hope our love lasts forever.”
