"Due to this discord, Gomit was sent to England"
Police in Haryana say a man murdered his own mother after he secretly returned from England.
Yamunanagar officers said Baljinder Kaur, the wife of a village sarpanch, was killed on the night of December 24, 2025, in Shyamapur village, following a long-running family dispute.
According to investigators, the killing was not committed by an outsider, but by her son, Gomit Rathi, with help from an accomplice.
Both Gomit and his accomplice, Pankaj, have been arrested and produced in court, which remanded them to four days of police custody.
Police said they received information about Baljinder’s death on December 24.
Following the report, Yamunanagar Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal constituted a Special Investigation Team to probe the case.
The investigation revealed a prolonged dispute between Baljinder and her son.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Gomit wanted to marry a young woman from his village against his parents’ wishes.
Due to the conflict, Gomit was sent to England.
DSP Ashish Chaudhary said: “During the investigation, it was revealed that the deceased and her son Gomit had been involved in a long-standing family dispute.
“Due to this discord, Gomit was sent to England about two years ago. However, the family feud remained unresolved.”
On December 18, 2025, Gomit returned to India without telling his family.
According to investigators, only his accomplice, Pankaj, knew about the return and helped keep it hidden.
According to police, on the night of December 24, Gomit quietly entered the village and hid in a cattle shed.
Investigators alleged that he waited for an opportunity late at night before attacking his mother.
DSP Chaudhary said: “Late that night, he found an opportunity and attacked his mother.
“He first stabbed her and then strangled her to death.”
“After committing the murder, the body was dumped into a water tank in the cattle yard to make it appear as an accidental or suspicious death. The accused then fled the spot.”
Based on the findings, Crime Branch-2 Yamunanagar arrested Gomit Rathi and Pankaj.
DSP Chaudhary stated that during the police remand, the accused will be interrogated intensively, and the items used in the murder will be recovered.
He added that police are investigating all aspects of the case.
