A woman’s ex-boyfriend sold his mobile phone in early May 2019, however, he forgot to delete the nude photos of his former lover.

The 35-year-old married woman from Meerut later committed suicide after the photos were shared.

The married woman and mother of a five-year-old boy discovered that the nude photos had been shared on social media.

She jumped off a bridge with her son into the Gangnahar canal in Muzaffarnagar. Divers managed to rescue the child but the woman died.

Police officers were aware of the viral pictures and realised that the deceased woman was the same person in the photos.

The woman’s former lover Shubham Kumar had sold the phone to Anuj Prajapati but forgot to delete the nude photos of his ex-girlfriend. Prajapati subsequently shared the photos online.

Khatauli SHO Harisharan Sharma said: “We received information that a woman along with her five-year-old son jumped from Alaknanda Bridge into Gangnahar canal in Muzaffarnagar’s Khatauli area.

“She also made a call using a kiosk owner’s mobile phone before taking the extreme step.”

The phone call was traced to her husband in Meerut which confirmed her identity.

They discovered that Prajapati had shared the photos and intended to question him. However, they later found out that he was dead.

Kumar and his friends allegedly murdered him on May 23, 2019, when they found out that he leaked the pictures.

SHO Anand Mishra said: “The woman approached her ex-lover after she came across her picture on social media.

“Angered over the development, Shubham and his friends killed Prajapati.”

The suspects involved were identified after officers reviewed CCTV footage and had recovered a mobile phone.

A police team was assembled to investigate and arrest the suspects.

However, before the Meerut police could make a breakthrough, Saharanpur police arrested the suspects on May 25, 2019, following an encounter.

It was reported that the five men, including Shubham, opened fire at police after they were stopped for a security check.

SSP Dinesh Kumar explained:

“Five suspects on two motorcycles opened fire at a police team when the latter asked them to stop for security checks on Saturday.”

“Two suspects had sustained bullet wounds in the leg in retaliatory fire. The suspects were wanted in a murder case in Meerut’s Kankerkhera area on May 23.”

SHO Mishra added that the woman may have known about the murder. It was a possibility that her suicide was due to a combination of the leaked photos and the fear that she could be identified in the murder case.
