"Gurmail had been recording obscene photographs and videos"
A judo teacher was arrested on March 10, 2020, for recording obscene videos of his girl students.
He is also alleged to have raped one girl and sexually assaulted four others after blackmailing them at a private school in Kurukshetra, Haryana.
Police identified the accused as Gurmail Singh. After his arrest, he was produced before the court.
He will be remanded in judicial custody for 14 days while the investigation continues.
Superintendent Astha Modi explained that the matter came to light when several parents came forward with complaints.
Many of the parents said: “An accused Gurmail Singh works as a judo coach in this school. He gives coaching to the students of Class five to 12, who are still studying in the school and who have left the school as well.
“We have come to know that he indulges in lewd activities with female students, and had been assaulting them mentally and physically.
“He threatens the girls and forces them to form a physical relationship with him.
“Accused also made a WhatsApp group of girls so that they can have constant contact with them. He sends pornographic videos and photos to this WhatsApp group.
“Gurmail had been recording obscene photographs and videos of underage girls and had been blackmailing them and forcing them to do wrong things.
“When the girls opposed, he threatened to make their photos and videos viral.”
“In the year 2018, a girl student of Class 10 had complained about the ill-treatment of this coach, but the parents and the principal had cleared the case without taking a serious note.”
The complaint added: “A few days ago, Gurmail had sent obscene photos and videos on the WhatsApp of Class eight girl student.
“When her parents saw the message, the student said that he had been harassing her for a long time.
“A complaint was lodged to the Principal of the school. On the Principal’s call, the accused came to school with his brother and when Gurmail’s mobile phone was checked, some questionable photos of the girl students were found in the gadget.”
Following the complaint, the judo teacher was arrested and booked under numerous cases of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences.
Inspector Sunita Rawat confirmed that Gurmail was remanded in custody.
According to Inspector Rawat, five girls have come forward but they may be more victims.
She said: “So far, a total of five girls who got judo training under accused Gurmail alleged sexual assault by him.
“One of the five alleged rape and reportedly, he has been assaulting them since the year 2018.
“The facts and allegations are being verified under the due course of the investigation. One of the five girls has now attained an age of a major while others are still minors.”
