While India cruised to victory against the Netherlands at the T20 World Cup, one Indian fan was spotted proposing to his girlfriend.

Fans packed into the Sydney Cricket Ground to watch the match on October 27, 2022.

The unexpected proposal came during the Netherlands innings in the sixth over and it was captured on the big screen, meaning it was witnessed by the entire stadium and viewers around the world.

Amid the cheering fans, one man is seen getting up from his seat and going down on one knee in front of his girlfriend.

Fans sitting near the couple began cheering for them as the man is heard asking:

“Will you marry me?”

His girlfriend replies “yes” but due to the loud cheering, the man struggles to hear her.

He then realises that she said yes and the couple embrace.

Meanwhile, the commentators had been discussing the match. They abruptly stop their analysis to ask whether a marriage proposal had just happened.

The video was posted by ICC, jokingly captioning the clip:

“Decision pending.”

Social media users took to the comments to congratulate the newly-engaged couple.

One person said the fan “took home” the “trophy”.

Others pointed out how cricket stadiums have become commonplace for marriage proposals.

However, some believed the proposal was done for the cameras.

One said:

“Damn nowadays generation whatever you want to do, do it in front of the camera.”

Another troll commented: “Time to get my GF to the ground and pretend like I’m proposing to her for the first time so we both can become famous.

“Is this a trend or what?”

Meanwhile, it proved to be a good day at the office for the Indian national team as they won their second consecutive game, taking them to the top of Group 2.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav all reached half-centuries as India scored 179-2.

The Netherlands began the T20 match with good bowling, making it difficult for India to get off to a fast start.

But India settled and managed an unachievable score for the Netherlands, winning by 56 runs.

After the match, Sharma said:

“Lucky for us, we had a few days to get over that special win. As soon as the game got over, we came to Sydney and regrouped.

“We have to move on now, and the focus was on this game where we wanted to come out and get those two points. I thought it was a clinical win.”
