An Indian doctor lost his job after his pre-wedding shoot with his fiancee inside an operating theatre circulated on social media.

The unique shoot took place at a hospital in Karnataka’s Chitradurga, where Dr Abhishek worked as a physician on a contract basis.

Footage showed Dr Abhishek ‘performing” surgery on ‘patient’ while his bride-to-be assisted him.

The couple were dressed in medical scrubs while the ‘patient’ lies on the operating table.

As the couple continues their stunt, the camera pans to show professional lighting equipment and cameramen.

The cameramen are heard giggling as they film the medical-themed pre-wedding shoot.

The doctor’s fiancee laughs as she steps back.

Towards the end of the video, the man playing the patient sits up and everyone in the room bursts into laughter.

As the clip went viral, social media users had mixed opinions.

Some urged Dr Abhishek to be more respectful towards his profession while one did not see the problem with the shoot:

“I didn’t find anything wrong in this shoot. Everything seems to be fine.

“There was no need to get jealous of someone thinking out of the box for their pre-wedding shoot.

“There was no harm done to anyone also the one playing the role of the patient is well aware and is a part of the act.”

However, the video’s popularity came back to haunt the doctor.

Karnataka’s Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao ordered for Dr Abhishek to be dismissed from the hospital.

He tweeted: “A doctor who conducted a pre-wedding shoot in the operation theatre of Bharamasagar Government Hospital in Chitradurga has been dismissed from service.

“Government hospitals exist for the health care of people and not for personal work.

“I cannot tolerate such indiscipline from doctors.”

“All contract employees, including doctors and staff performing duties in the health department, should perform their duties as per the government service rules.

“I have already instructed the concerned doctors and all the staff to be careful so that such abuses do not happen in government hospitals.

“Everyone should focus on performing the duty knowing that the facilities provided by the government to the government hospitals are for the health care of the common people.”

Renu Prasad, District Health Officer of Chitradurga, added:

“We had appointed him through the National Health Mission (NHM) on a contract basis a month ago as a medical officer.

“The operation theatre in question is currently unused and is undergoing repairs. It has not been in operation since September.”
