"I’m having trouble getting a new one."
The recent tightening of visa regulations between Bangladesh and India has significantly impacted the film industries in both nations.
It has been posing challenges for artists and production teams.
As travel restrictions became more stringent, Bangladeshi actors are currently struggling to secure the necessary permits for filming in India.
Similarly, Indian performers are facing similar hurdles when attempting to work in Bangladesh.
A notable example of this situation is actress Tasnia Farin.
The actress was eagerly anticipated to star alongside renowned Indian actor Dev in the Kolkata film Pratiksha.
Unfortunately, due to complications with her visa, she was unable to participate in the project. This forced Tasnia to withdraw entirely.
The predicament underscored the broader difficulties that Bangladeshi talent faced.
Bengali actress Pori Moni was also one of the implicated ones and was also unable to travel to India for her film Felubakshi.
Although she completed her shooting in Kolkata, she could not attend crucial dubbing sessions.
This was due to her visa expiring and her subsequent inability to get a new one.
The challenges extended beyond Bangladeshi actors. Indian artists were similarly affected by delays in obtaining work permits for their projects in Bangladesh.
In September 2024, Rituparna Sengupta and Swastika Mukherjee were scheduled to film in Bangladesh.
However, their plans have been derailed. Both artists are currently waiting for the necessary approvals.
Swastika had been set to begin shooting for Altabanu Jochhona Dekheni, directed by Himu Akram.
But just like others, the unresolved visa issues forced a postponement of the entire schedule.
Meanwhile, Rituparna was expected to arrive in Dhaka to work on Tori, directed by Rashid Polash. But her travel has been similarly delayed.
Both Tasnia and Pori Moni have openly shared their frustrations regarding these obstacles.
Pori Moni expressed her concerns. She stated: “My previous visa has expired, and I’m having trouble getting a new one.
“I don’t know when I’ll be able to travel to India again.”
Tasnia highlighted the ongoing uncertainty surrounding visa approvals.
She stated that the matter complicated coordination with major stars like Dev and Mithun Chakraborty.
The situation ultimately jeopardised the feasibility of important projects and resulted in a state of uncertainty.
The repercussions of these tightened visa regulations have become increasingly evident as artists and filmmakers strive to navigate an evolving landscape.
