How Amar Singh Chamkila’s Children are continuing his Legacy

Diljit Dosanjh is currently winning hearts with his portrayal of the late Amar Singh Chamkila.

Titled Chamkila, the Netflix film depicts the life of the Punjabi folk singer as well as his murder at the age of 27.

The film also provides a glimpse of his children, who were still young at the time.

Amar Singh Chamkila had three children.

His daughters Amandeep Kaur and Kamaldeep Kaur are from the singer’s first marriage to Gurmail Kaur.

Amandeep was just four years old when her father was shot dead by unknown assailants.

After his death, Gurmail was left struggling and relied on her daughters for support.

Kamaldeep Kaur now lives in Canada and has continued her late father’s legacy by venturing into the music industry, collaborating with Punjabi singer Raj Brar.

She is also known by her stage name Kamal Chamkila.

Amar Singh Chamkila also had a son with his second wife and singing partner Amarjot Kaur, who was killed alongside her husband in the shooting in 1988.

Jaiman Chamkila has also ventured into the music industry.

Recalling his childhood, Jaiman revealed that he was raised by his grandparents because his parents were busy with stage shows.

He previously revealed that he is in touch with his father’s first family.

Jaiman said: “I am in touch with Chamkila’s first family.

“I have two sisters from his first wife, Amandeep and Kamaldeep. The older one is married and has two kids… When I go meet her (his stepmother), she greets me well but that’s it.

“From the beginning, it’s been this way. It is not her fault nor our (the children) fault.”

Jaiman also spoke about how the family often talks about the singer’s death.

Amar Singh Chamkila often found himself dealing with threats from various extremist groups and rival singers when he was at the peak of his career.

Jaiman continued:

“Sometimes we speak and she would say that if your father was around, we wouldn’t be in such a state.”

“He worked really hard, people’s evil eyes impacted him, he had too many enemies. I have my sisters as well, we try to share our pain as much as we can.”

Jaiman revealed that Amandeep is married and has two children while Kamaldeep tied the knot in 2023.

Jaiman is active on social media and frequently shares videos and photos from his shows.

Meanwhile, Imtiaz Ali’s Chamkila is receiving praise from fans and critics alike.
