Parineeti Chopra is set to sing a grand total of 15 songs in Amar Singh Chamkila.
The film is distributed by Netflix and is directed by Imtiaz Ali. It features Diljit Dosanjh in the titular role.
Meanwhile, Parineeti will play the singer’s wife Amarjot.
Speaking about this exciting turn of events, Parineeti explained:
“One of the main reasons I did this film was because I was getting to sing some 15 songs for it.
“It was during this film that my co-star Diljit heard me sing and told me to pursue live performances.
“Everyone around me used to constantly put this thought in my head that I could be on stage.”
Parineeti Chopra also stated her excitement at the challenge. She continued:
“It is an exciting challenge to take. I will work hard.
“I am getting into the skin of a musician and learning more about the world of concerts.”
Amar Singh Chamkila is a biopic based on the life of one of history’s most famous Punjabi musicians.
Amar Singh Chamkila, born Dhanni Ram, overcame poverty and through his natural talent for music, rose to fame in the late 1970s.
Tragically, he and Amarjot were assassinated by a group of motorcyclists on March 8, 1988. Amar Singh was only 27 years old.
When the film was announced, Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, Netflix India’s Director of Original Films, said:

“Our partnership with Imitiaz Ali on the provocative personality and story of Chamkila has been an exhilarating process.

AR Rahman serves as music composer for the film. He has previously worked with Imtiaz on films including Rockstar (2011) and Highway (2014).
Parineeti previously shared that she had put on significant weight for the role of Amarjot. The actress said:
“I spent six months last year singing in Rahman sir’s studio, and going back home to eat as much junk as I possibly could to put on 15 KILOS for Chamkila! (Coming soon on Netflix).
“That was my routine.”
“Now that the film is done, the story is the opposite.
“I miss the studio and work in the gym trying to look like myself again.
“And not like Amarjot ji! It’s been hard. But anything for you Imtiaz sir!
“And this role. Many more inches to go.”
Meanwhile, Parineeti Chopra is currently enjoying married life with Raghav Chadha. They married on September 24, 2023.
