"it’s ironic that Green candidates and councillors will drive these cars"
A Green Party councillor is facing criticism after a social media video showed him driving a Lamborghini days after being elected to office in Bolton.
Baggy Khan was seen arriving at a wedding in the bright orange supercar.
Critics questioned the optics of the video given the Green Party’s stance on reducing car usage and phasing out petrol and diesel vehicles.
The Lamborghini Huracán Spyder consumes significantly more fuel than the average car and is capable of reaching speeds of 200mph because of its 5.2-litre V10 engine.
Mr Khan was among 587 Green councillors elected during the local elections as the party made gains across the UK. He won the Halliwell ward in Bolton with 1,752 votes.
During his campaign, Mr Khan frequently referenced Gaza on social media and in campaign messaging, while environmental issues appeared less prominent.
The Lamborghini shown in the wedding footage is believed to have been rented. He was filmed arriving alongside several other high-end vehicles.
The Green Party has proposed several transport and environmental policies, including ending the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles by 2027 and removing their use entirely by 2035.
The party has also backed reducing motorway speed limits to 55mph, increasing motoring taxes, cutting parking spaces and requiring drivers to retake tests every five years.
Nadim Muslim, the leader of the Conservatives on Bolton council, criticised:
“I think it’s now clear to any voter that the environment is at the bottom of the Green Party’s priorities.
“Their local election campaign focused more on Palestine than the Planet.”
“It is symptomatic of an organisation that is using sectarianism to further drive a divisive agenda in British politics.
“Further, it’s ironic that Green candidates and councillors will drive these cars, not only against their supposed environmental beliefs, but also while promoting an economic policy which would see cars like that cease to exist in the UK.”
Before the election, Mr Khan also faced scrutiny after footage emerged that appeared to show him filming while driving. Another similar video was reportedly posted in October 2022.
Both clips appear to have since been deleted.

At the time, Mr Khan said the videos were “very old” and he “won’t be posting driving videos” in the future.
He added: “I am confident that I will be able to prove that I am not guilty of breaking the law.
“Anyone who knows me will know that I am a clean-cut young man with no criminal record.”
Mr Khan describes himself as an entrepreneur involved in several businesses, including a recruitment firm, a logistics and transport company and a vitamin supplement supplier.
A Green Party spokesman said: “Two videos exist of Councillor Khan driving and being chauffeured in rented expensive cars – one at his friend’s wedding, one at his own wedding three years ago.
“Councillor Khan fully supports Green Party policy of reducing the dangers posed to neighbourhoods from speeding traffic and investment in public transport to make it easier to choose alternatives to the car.”
