Only Sanju, Padmaavat, Race 3 and Baaghi 2 grossed more
Akshay Kumar’s GOLD has become 2018’s fifth highest opening weekend grossing film in India. The film released on Wednesday, August 15, 2018.
The historical drama enjoyed a good opening weekend of 5 days by earning £7.9 million (Rs. 71.30 crores) at the box office.
GOLD is Kumar’s second film on the list, the first being Pad Man, another biographical drama which is based on the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social activist who introduced low-cost sanitary pads.
GOLD grossed almost double that of Pad Man which shows the anticipation to see the story of India’s first Olympic success as an independent nation.
Despite facing competition from John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate, which released on the same day, the social drama was able to gather good footfalls at the cinemas.
These figures make GOLD the fifth highest opening weekend grossing film of 2018. The Bollywood blockbuster hit a total of 4000 screens in India and netted an opening day gross of Rs 25 crores (£2.8 million).
Only Sanju, Padmaavat, Race 3 and Baaghi 2 grossed more in their opening weekend.
