"To see your collection come live on stage in front of you. That was amazing."

Shahrukh Khan’s glamorous and chic other half, Gauri Khan, launched her debut fashion collection at Day 3 of Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2015.

The collection, called ‘A Tropical Wonder’, was presented for designer Satya Paul, in celebration of 30 years of the brand, and experimented with exotic casual and holiday wear.

Using botanicals, florals and nature as motifs the collection saw sheer asymmetric tunics, shirts with mesh inserts, free-flowing shift dresses and stunning satin georgette saris.

Speaking before the show, Gauri reportedly said:

“My signature line of clothing for Satya Paul will showcase a distinctive aspect of my own personal style. Co-creating and endorsing a line for one of India’s finest brands will be a new experience for me.”

Gauri’s swimwear collection also proved to be a huge hit with bikinis, kaftans, sarongs and cholis. Gauri has experimented with cuts to suit the curvaceous Indian woman with cross-over halters, low back suits and cut-outs.

Speaking about why she decided to collaborate with Satya Paul for her collection, Gauri said:

“I was an artist and I love colours and Satya Paul’s collection always have some colourful outfits, that what inspired my tropical collection. Next year also you will see more vibrant and pumped-up dresses from me.”

Following the show, Gauri also walked the ramp, looking every inch an Indian model with side swept voluminous hair, and an outfit of grey and black. She opted for a sheer geometric blouse and diagonal cut grey skirt, teamed with a grey blazer and space grey strap-on heels.

Also present were Malaika Arora Khan, Ali Fazal, Zarine Khan, Kunal Kohli, Elli Avram, Mandira Bedi, Tanishaa Mukerji, Dabboo Ratnani, Sophie Choudry, Tamannaah Bhatia, Seema Khan, Bhawna Pandey, Avinash Gowariker and Maheep Kapoor.

After the show, Gauri was thrilled by the response she received, admitting: “Well tonight was absolutely thrilling. Firstly, to see your collection come live on stage in front of you. That was amazing, it all came together beautifully tonight. So today was just fantastic for me.”

The fashionable socialite is widely viewed as a style icon in Bollywood. While she regularly stays away from the Bollywood camera, Gauri has shown a knack for behind the scenes as well as a keen passion for entrepreneurialism.

While also being an executive producer with Shahrukh’s production company, Red Chillies Entertainment, Gauri has also successfully dabbled in interior design.

Gauri’s Mumbai store, ‘The Design Cell’ has been the go to for India’s socialites and was even visited by Deepika Padukone the day before Gauri’s Lakmé show. The actress who was accompanied by her mum sought out some design inspiration from the home décor store.

Gauri’s designs for Satya Paul will be made available across the brand’s flagship stores. It seems that Gauri has a definite talent for fashion style and design, and we certainly can’t wait to see more from the Indian socialite.
