"He has been reaching his whole career."
Floyd Mayweather has criticised Amir Khan as he stated that he has no interest in fighting him in an exhibition boxing match.
He claimed that nobody knows who Khan is in America except for really big boxing fans.
Two weeks after retiring, Khan called out Mayweather for an exhibition bout after watching his exhibition bout against ‘Dangerous’ Don Moore.
Khan had said: “We saw the event today, I think Floyd, he needed a real challenge.
“We should do it, 100 per cent guys. Either hit me up or hit my brother up. I’m calling him out! Let’s make it happen.”
Khan went on to claim that he would have beaten the American if they had fought in their primes.
Speaking to Gary Neville on The Overlap, Khan said:
“You know what? I’d beat him. If I was in my prime I’m very confident.
“I’m going to get a lot of hate for that, I’m sorry guys, but you have to believe in yourself and that’s one thing I’ve always done throughout my career.
“I think stylistically when Mayweather was a lot younger he had a lot of speed, a lot of movement, but I feel that my speed would have beaten his speed, my movement would have beaten his movement and he really wasn’t the biggest puncher in the game so it would have been like a game of chess, but I would have outboxed him.
“When me and him were supposed to fight I remembered that I signed all the contracts and everything was negotiated.
“Everything was signed off and why didn’t it happen? Because I announced it first before him. Can you believe that?
“He wanted to be the man to announce the fight, but because he didn’t get to do it he said ‘I’m not fighting you’.”
Mayweather has now hit back at Khan, calling him a “clout chaser”.
‘Money’ Mayweather said: “Amir Khan is reaching and reaching and reaching. He has been reaching his whole career.
“He was a pretty cool fighter, he wasn’t a Floyd Mayweather or any of the other top guys.
“He did what he had to do. He’s a clout chaser. I’m not even worried about Amir Khan.”
“I guess he is big in the UK but no one in the US really knows him unless you’re really into boxing.”
Both boxers fought Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez during their careers.
While Mayweather inflicted Canelo’s first professional loss, Khan was knocked out by the Mexican in the sixth round.
On Khan’s belief that he would have beaten him, Floyd Mayweather added:
“It’s great that he (Amir Khan) feels that way.
“But you’ve got to look in the mirror Khan against Canelo and look at me against Canelo. That’s your answer right there.”
Even though he retired in 2017, Mayweather continues to rake in the big bucks through exhibition bouts.
He will face Japanese mixed martial artist Mikuru Asakura on September 25, 2022, before taking on YouTuber Deji Olatunji in Dubai on November 13.
