He failed to intervene properly.
A fresh police case has been registered against standup comedian Pranit More in Gurugram amid mounting outrage over a viral video.
The controversy has sparked a wider debate regarding deep-seated misogyny and the ethical limits of modern crowd work comedy.
An official First Information Report was registered against both the comedian and a technology professional named Himanshu Jangra recently.
The legal action was taken after the National Commission for Women filed a formal complaint with the local authorities.
The online uproar began after a video clip from a comedy show held in Gurugram started circulating across internet platforms.
During the show, Jangra openly discussed spending rupees 370 on chicken biryani during a recent romantic date.
He then admitted to seeking explicit sexual favours from the woman when she asked him to drop her home safely.
Social media users quickly accused the audience member of normalising sexual coercion and severely undermining the basic principle of consent.
Many critics also slammed More for amplifying the problematic remarks by laughing heartily and later uploading the video clip online.
This new case adds to the growing legal trouble, as the Maharashtra Cyber Cell has already registered an identical case.
The National Commission for Women intervened swiftly by demanding immediate accountability and official action from law enforcement officials nationwide.
According to the central commission, the remarks clearly appeared to glorify coercive behaviour and severely compromise the dignity of women.
Following the intense public backlash, both individuals have issued multiple public apologies across their respective social media accounts.
In a recorded video statement, the standup comedian admitted that he failed to intervene properly during the audience interaction.
He explained that he had been “carried away” by the loud reaction of the crowd present at the venue.
Furthermore, Pranit More acknowledged that allowing the harmful remarks to continue during his set was a major “lapse in judgment.”
He extended his sincere apologies to every person who felt offended or triggered by the widely shared video clip.
Consequences escalated rapidly for the tech professional, who reportedly lost his job after the video generated massive negative attention.
Simultaneously, various prominent women’s organisations have staged public protests against the comedian to demand greater accountability from creators.
Activists argue that such comedic content actively promotes misogynistic mindsets and creates unsafe environments for women in urban spaces.
