“It's a harsh reality that many women face."

On Rafay Mahmood’s podcast, Bee Gul shed light on the rampant sexual exploitation that pervades the Pakistani entertainment industry.

She also revealed how she managed to thrive despite the toxic environment.

According to Bee, the expectation of trading sexual favours for success is deeply ingrained in the industry’s culture.

She said “It’s a harsh reality that many women face. They’re led to believe that their bodies and beauty are the keys to unlocking success.”

Bee emphasised that this mindset is perpetuated by the industry’s power players, who often prey on vulnerable newcomers.

Despite being offered lucrative deals and promises of fame, Bee Gul refused to compromise her values.

“I was offered an apartment in New York, 7 star vacations in Dubai. But I knew that wasn’t the kind of success I wanted.”

Bee’s short film, Jamun Ka Darakht, has received global recognition, cementing her status as a talented writer and director.

However, she acknowledged that her refusal to play by the industry’s rules has come at a cost.

The screenwriter admitted: “I may not have achieved the same level of financial success as some of my peers.

“But I can sleep at night knowing that I stayed true to myself.”

She encouraged women to prioritise their values and boundaries, even in the face of pressure and temptation, adding:

“It’s not easy, but it’s worth it.”

The industry’s exploitation of women is a systemic problem perpetuated by a culture of objectification and entitlement.

Bee said: “It’s not just the men in power who are the problem – it’s the entire system that enables them.

“We need to dismantle that system and create a new one that values and respects women’s autonomy.”

Bee Gul’s scripts continue to shine a light on the dark underbelly of the industry, tackling themes of misogyny and patriarchy with unflinching honesty.

She eloquently said: “I survived, and that’s all that matters.”

People hold her in very high esteem due to her intellect and gentle personality.

A user wrote:

“Need more of such open and honest conversations about the problems prevalent, perhaps globally.”

Another added: “Such a wise, intelligent, poised, graceful, and well-spoken lady. She speaks so well and it’s always a pleasure listening to her.”

One said: “Bringing forth the dark shades of this industry in such a pure and modest way, amazing Bee Gul.

“Not every woman can speak this way exposing the truth.”
