The Punjabi singer famous for the song Tunak Tunak said:

“Friends, I’m today so ecstatic! I have just heard, Ali Pervez Mehdi, the elder son of Mehdi sahib.

“An incredible track has come from Coke Studio.

“And Meesha Shafi also has sung the song amazingly, ‘Gul Sunn Gul Sunn Dhola’.

“I’ve been yearning and waiting for many years for Ali Pervez Mehdi to come out with a song in the market.

“And that Ali’s voice would reach the masses and the song would be a hit.

“So, it’s with great joy and happiness to see this take place. I hope he’s granted a long life and career.

“And for all the fans and well-wishers of Pervez Mehdi, including me, I’m really happy for him.

“Of course, if his late father Ustad Pervez Mehdi, and even Ali Pervez’s grandfather were here. I’m sure it would’ve been even more joyful.

“I urge you to listen to this song from Coke Studio, ‘Gul Sunn Gul Sunn Dhola’ what an incredible song!”

‘Gal Sunn’, is a very upbeat and catchy folk song. Featuring an impressive contemporary element, the song instantly promotes a groove which is toe-tapping and enjoyable to listen to.

The theme of the song is meant to represent the yearning between lovers.

Speaking about the track, Pervez Mehdi Ali shared his thoughts, saying:

“In these times, going through [Covid-19], I wanted people to listen to something positive and fun.

“That is why I created this song. I dance to it and I want everyone else to dance to it too!”

An interesting aspect of the song is the addition of the brass section which features Serbian brass players.

Use of trumpet, saxophone and trombone are seen in the video with the musicians playing their parts in the track to give it a very funky feel.

Rohail the show’s founder touted Pervez Ali Mehdi to be a “master vocalist and an amazing person.”

The producer shared:

“The ease with which he delivers his vocals and the command he has over these eastern notes and nuances are a pure pleasure to experience.

“As with most Sufi music, there are deeper messages within what seems like a love story of the younger years.

“Gal Sunn represents this allegorical nature.

“Again, I felt this song could do with a reply from the other side and so we set out to make a counter-melody and find a performer for this.

“Zara Madani came up with the catchy melody that Meesha has sung so effortlessly.

“Meesha liked the song instantly and related to the emotion. She completes the song rather well in my opinion.

“She and Ali make a lovely singing pair.”

This praise along with that of Daler Mehndi is bound to get lots of attention from fans and music lovers alike for this very well-performed song.

The 13th season of Coke Studio is produced by Rohail Hyatt’s production company Frequency Media and distributed by Coca-Cola Pakistan.
