"I respect you as someone who has a pretty voice."
Asim Azhar has reason to celebrate as his song ‘Jo Tu Na Mila’ has reached over 100 million streams on Spotify.
He took to Instagram to share the news with his fans and treated them to a clip of him singing live.
Asim said: “My first ever song to cross 100 million streams on Spotify, so I wanted to gift you guys something.
“Here is a very special version for all the Jo Tu Na Mila fans.”
Asim shared a few verses of the song in his caption and credited Kunaal Vermaa for the meaningful lyrics.
The post was met with a lot of appreciation and many of Asim’s followers left comments to applaud his success and many requested that the rendition be released on Spotify.
One individual commented: “This song suits your voice, it was made for you.”
Another added: “You are a gift to Pakistan. I respect you as someone who has a pretty voice.
“Your voice is so beautiful, when a person is sad they can listen to this and feel peace.”
A third said: “These song lyrics were not written by a pen, they were written by pain.”
‘Jo Tu Na Mila’ was released in 2018 and in 2020 it had gathered over 100 million YouTube views.
At the time, Asim Azhar celebrated the news and said he was honoured to join the ranks of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Atif Aslam and Momina Mustehsan.
He had said: “Thank you, I love you guys. I’m still finding it hard to believe, almost lost for words.
“While this may be a commonplace achievement in certain parts of the world, originating from our region and having confronted numerous challenges, including the YouTube ban, it was an incredibly arduous journey.”
Interestingly, ‘Jo Tu Na Mila’ was the same song that saw Asim Azhar accused of plagiarism after social media users noted that there were similarities to the 1989 Japanese film A Town with an Ocean View.
Asim clarified that the tune had been obtained legally by Universal Music India who had released the song.
Asim Azhar is a talented singer who has tried his hand at acting in the drama serial Pagli, which also starred Hira Mani, Hina Altaf, Noor Hassan and Mehmood Aslam.
He won the Hum Style Award in 2020 for the Most Stylish Performer and was nominated for the Sony Mix Audience Music Awards for ‘Jo Tu Na Mila’ in the Best Non-Film Track category.
