Asian Bridal Wear for Your Body Shape

Lenghas perfectly wrap themselves around hourglass figures.

After you have found the perfect man, finding the perfect lehenga for your big day is a top priority!

Growing up, you dreamed about wearing the perfect bridal outfit which would transform you into a princess, if just for the day.

As you got older though, that dream slipped away and became something of a nightmare. Why?

Because you grew curves, breasts and hips, and had to consider what type of outfit would compliment the body shape that you had.

Having these curves is all part of being a woman, and we love them! But knowing how to dress your figure is the hard part.

Nowadays, many Asian brides are proud of the figures they have worked hard to achieve, and want to flaunt their body.

Other Asian brides would rather stick with traditional attires and opt for heavy covered lehengas.

Whichever style you go for, finding any type of bridal gown will be difficult if you don’t do your research.

That’s where we come in. So make yourself some chai, put on your comfy slippers, and let us do all the hard work, as we find the perfect bridal attire to suit your body shape:

Apple Shapes

If Aishwarya Rai Bachchan can rock this figure whilst looking absolutely flawless, then you can too!

Apple Shapes typically hold most of their weight in their middle sections, but this doesn’t mean you can’t find a gorgeous Desi bridal outfit!

Sharara lehengas are ideal for Apple Shapes as they add volume to the lower section of your body, balancing out your proportions.

Be sure to wear a tight blouse around the bust to ensure that the right body parts are accentuated.

Hourglass Shapes

Ileana D’Cruz consistently flaunts this envious figure.

Hourglass shapes are said to be the most feminine figure of all. As the waist is your smallest body part, you should definitely maximise on it!

Lehengas perfectly wrap themselves around hourglass figures and elegantly expose the waist, highlighting those womanly curves.

Try wearing bejewelled items around this area, as it will draw attention to your midriff, and add a glitzy chic element to your outfit.

Pear Shape

Bottom heavy brides needn’t worry about forcible fitting their gorgeous derrieres into their wedding outfit.

A salwar kameez is ideal for Pear Shapes as an after party outfit as they form a natural, a-line silhouette, and compliment your bottom half with its fabrics.

Be sure not to opt for heavy, voluminous fabrics towards the bottom of your attire, as this will add emphasis to your lower half and make you appear unbalanced.

Chiffon materials are perfect for this shape as it drapes beautifully over those gorgeous curves.

Strawberry Shape

Whether you have big breasts or large shoulders, strawberry shapes needn’t stress when trying to find their bridal outfits.

If you are conscious of your upper body, wearing a chic jacket will conceal any lumps and bumps that you don’t particularly like.

Obviously, choose a style which flatters the rest of your outfit in terms of colour, cut and fabric.

Don’t completely drape your upper body in a heavy material, or with a high cut design. This will leave you looking stiff and rigid, which is not what you want for your big day!

Rectangle Shape

Diana Penty flies the flag for this petite figure, and continuously looks gorgeous in whatever she wears!

Whilst most women with a rectangle, A-line shape feel unfeminine, it is actually the easiest figure to dress.

Play around with cuts and textures. For instance, a heavily embroidered anarkali will add volume to your shape and visually allude to a curvaceous figure, adding extra dimensions.

Low neck lines are great for rectangle shaped girls. They highlight their taught collar bones, and hang beautifully on their frame.

Whilst there are specific rules for certain body shapes, it would be wise for every bride to follow these do’s and don’ts:

DO

  • Get tailor fitted. No bride wants their outfit to hang off them like a coat hanger!
  • Look around! Don’t settle for an inexpensive piece. Price matters, but sometimes, the more you pay, the better you feel!
  • Look to other wedding outfits for inspiration. It’s not copying, they will be flattered!
  • Experiment. Sometimes brides can follow the crowd too much for fear of looking out of place. But this is your day, so stand out!

DON’T

  • Settle for anything less than perfect! Be high maintenance, be demanding, it’s what it’s all about!
  • Wear ridiculously high heels. Asian weddings are famous for their longevity, so opt for mid height heels to ensure maximum comfort.
  • Be too risqué. Young Asian brides might be tempted to flash the flesh, which is fine. But keep it classy. You don’t want to regret what you wore in years to come.

And there you have it! Research done, it’s time for the fun part.

So ladies, go and hit the shops!
