a bailable arrest warrant could potentially be issued
It has been reported that Ameesha Patel faces a potential arrest warrant.
Judge Ravi Kumar Borasi of Bhopal’s District Court has summoned the movie star to a hearing scheduled for Saturday, December 4, 2021.
It reportedly comes after a case was filed against her regarding bounced cheques thought to be worth a total of Rs. 1.2 million (£12,000).
The complaint against Patel was lodged by Ravi Panth, a lawyer representing UTF Telefilms Private Limited Company.
He said that her company, M/S Ameesha Patel Production, had allegedly taken out a loan to fund the production of a new film.
Panth claimed that both cheques provided by the Humko Tumse Pyaar Hai (2006) star to return the borrowed money bounced.
Notably, a bailable arrest warrant could potentially be issued if the actress fails to appear before the court for her hearing.
This is not the first time that Patel has been involved in such a case after two other similar known incidents.
In 2019, an arrest warrant had also been issued against her by Ranchi Court in a Rs. 3 Crore (£300,000) case.
It came after an allegation by producer Ajay Kumar Singh, saying that his cheque bounced after the actress borrowed Rs. 2.5 Crore (£250,000) from him.
She is also believed to have taken another loan in the name of a film production from an individual named Nisha Chhipa.
A cheque worth of Rs. 10 Lakh (£10,000) was provided to Chhipa.
However, when presented at an Indore bank, it did not go through.
Ameesha Patel made her acting debut in Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000) opposite Hrithik Roshan after an offer from his father who had attended the same school as hers.
The film was a major commercial hit as was her second movie, a Telugu-language romance called Badri (2000) which grossed over Rs. 120 million (£1.2 million) in India at the time.
Patel continued her success streak by going on to star in Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001) opposite Sunny Deol.
It soon became the top-grossing film of the year and the biggest Bollywood hit of the 21st century at the time, earning Rs. 973 million (£9.7 million) in India alone.
Most recently, the actress appeared in her Punjabi debut film Fauji Band (2021) with Gurpreet Ghuggi and has several upcoming projects including Gadar 2.
Ameesha Patel has not yet commented on her upcoming court appearance.
