Sunita Ahuja and Govinda’s apparent marital troubles have made headlines again, with reports suggesting that Sunita has filed for divorce.
According to Hauterrfly, Sunita submitted a divorce petition in the Bandra Family Court on December 5, 2024.
The report said she invoked sections 13 (1) (i), (ia), and (ib) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, citing adultery, cruelty and desertion as grounds.
The court summoned Govinda, but he reportedly did not appear until a notice to show cause was issued in May 2025.
The couple is said to be undergoing court-mandated counselling.
Responding to the rumours, Govinda’s lawyer Lalit Bindra said:
“There is no case, everything is being settled, people are just bringing up old matters.
“This Ganesh Chaturthi, you will see everyone together, you should come home.”
After the reports surfaced, Govinda was spotted at Mumbai airport. He appeared unfazed by the speculation, blowing a kiss to photographers while posing for pictures.
Similar rumours emerged in February, when Govinda’s team said Sunita had filed for divorce six months prior, but the couple had reconciled.
Govinda’s manager, Shashi, also addressed the situation:
“Every couple sees ups and downs in their relationship. These are all old news that people are resurfacing for their own benefit.”
On allegations of cruelty, he said: “Govinda can never be violent or misbehave then where is the question of being cruel?
“I have worked closely with him and he is nothing like it. People are trying to tarnish his image. All this news that has surfaced is old, and both Sunita and Govinda are working on their differences.
“Which couple doesn’t have issues between them? Sunita is madly in love with Govinda and they are both together.
“There is no divorce happening as they are both focusing on their kids’ career-marriages, instead of this negativity.”
Criticising the media, he added: “By adding these serious sections and making a drama out of a small thing, you all are destroying someone’s relationship.
“You are okay to ruin people’s lives for a couple of views? In so many years of their marriage, have you ever heard Govinda say anything bad about Sunita?
“He didn’t react even after Sunita went and spoke against the actor in a couple of her interviews. You will see the family together this Ganesh Chaturthi. You can come home and see them.”
Sunita had been promoting her YouTube channel and giving interviews.
In her latest vlog, she described their relationship as one of strong companionship, though she has previously implied that they live separately and suggested Govinda has been unfaithful.
Reports also linked a 30-year-old Marathi actress to the couple’s alleged fallout.
Producer Pahlaj Nihalani dismissed the claims: “Nobody can get between Sunita and Govinda’s eternal love. Sunita speaks her mind, and Govinda never strays.
“Their marriage will survive even if he has 10 affairs. Plus, they’ve always lived separately. He always used to have his meetings in the other bungalow, because he sleeps late. She’s always with him otherwise.
“He doesn’t have a single film right now, but he does shows daily, and she handles his business matters.”
