“People have such misconceived notions about me"
Apoorva Mukhija has opened up about the grim realities of dating in Mumbai, branding the city’s romantic landscape as a “recession.”
Not holding back, the influencer said:
“The dating scene is bad in Mumbai. There’s an actual recession here.
“All the people who are single, including myself, are because nobody likes them.”
Apoorva, who is currently a contestant on Prime Video’s The Traitors, spoke candidly about her experiences navigating modern love in India’s financial capital.
She said her dating life is largely inactive, despite being on multiple apps.
Claiming that her social media presence has become an obstacle in her romantic life.
“People have such misconceived notions about me that I might make a video about them. And I think what is there in you that I would make a video about you.”
Criticising some of the assumptions made about her, she added:
“They think, ‘oh she drinks’, ‘she is a gold digger’, do they even know how much money content creators make?”
Apoorva recalled one particular date where the man’s attitude left her baffled.
“One time, I went on a date with this guy, who earned Rs. 25,000, and he told me I hate gold diggers. I was like, ‘You don’t even have money worth bronze, how can someone become a gold digger with you’.”
Apoorva, also known as The Rebel Kid, said her frustrations with Mumbai go beyond dating. She revealed that she’s planning to leave the city altogether.
She said: “I want to move outside Mumbai because everything is so easily accessible here. If I want to meet a director, it will take me 15 calls, but it will happen.
“Or if I go to a big Diwali party, I will meet people. It is so easy and there’s no room for growth.”
Apoorva Mukhija also reflected on her experience with fame, noting how success often feels hollow once achieved.
“In my head, every achievement has felt really weird.
“First, I am determined that I have to do this thing, but when I do it and it happens, I feel very underwhelmed by it.
“I am sure after The Traitors, I will feel the same.”
Apoorva is currently on The Traitors but she recently admitted she lied to get on the show.
She said she “made sure to give such answers in my interview that they selected me. I just wanted to be on the show anyway”.
