"It is still an intriguing fight"
Boxing fans may finally see Amir Khan face off against Kell Brook after Eddie Hearn revealed that “talks” are underway.
The fight has always failed to materialise, but Khan has spoken about the all-British clash after stating that he wants to return to the ring towards the end of 2021.
Now, Matchroom Boxing promoter Hearn has fuelled speculation, claiming that preliminary talks are underway between broadcasters and their representatives.
When asked about a potential fight between Khan and Brook, Hearn told Behind the Gloves:
“I think you will get it, yeah. I think there are a few broadcasters looking at it.
“I don’t know if it will definitely happen but you do now have both guys looking at it.”
“It is still an intriguing fight, but at one stage it was for a world title and a legacy fight.”
“Still a big fight, not what it once was, there are definitely talks.”
Both fighters are former world champions.
Out of the pair, Brook fought most recently, being TKO’d by Terence Crawford in November 2020.
Khan previously spoke of his desire to face Kell Brook before his professional career is over.
He told talkSPORT: “Everyone wants to see the Kell Brook fight, we’ve been talking about it for years and years.
“Look, me and Kell are probably past our best, I’ll be honest. But at the same time, we’re both around the same age.
“I think it’d be a good fight between us to see still who the number one is in Britain.
“The only two fights out there for me in my opinion is Kell Brook or Manny Pacquiao.
“The prediction for me and Kell Brook? I knock out Kell Brook in under six rounds.”
A bout between the pair has been ongoing for almost a decade, however, it never came to fruition after negotiations frequently broke down.
Khan has not fought since 2019 where he beat Billy Dib in four rounds in Saudi Arabia.
He has since been called out by the likes of rising star Conor Benn.
Benn called out Khan shortly after his win over Samuel Vargas in April 2021.
He had said: “I like Amir Khan, he has achieved everything I want to in this sport.
“But he said I would have a tough night against Samuel Vargas, just because he did.
“But I am a different animal when I get in there. When I see an opening I take it and that is exactly what I would do to Khan.”
