Amazon India Couture Week 2015 is well and truly underway!
The fashion fiesta is being held at the Taj Palace, New Delhi from the 29th July to 2nd August, and will play host to the most exquisite Indian designers.
So far, it hasn’t failed to impress. From Gaurav Gupta, to Manish Malhotra, AICW 2015 will definitely go down in fashion history. Here’s what has happened so far:
Day 1 ~ Sabyasachi and Christian Louboutin
- Sabyasachi
Wednesday 29th saw a show stopping opening extravaganza from Sabyasachi, with a collaboration from French footwear designer, Christian Louboutin.
The signature red soles were revamped with meticulously hand embroidered designs, reinforcing the gothic, edgy designs of Sabyasachi’s clothing.
The models’ makeup coincided with the Sabyasachi vibe – called Bater – with rich red lips and dark, smoky eyes moulding a dramatically strong look.
Ironically, Bater is the name of a powerful Indian hunting bird, but of course Sabyasachi knew this.
Taking inspiration from its form and colour he commented:
“Though it’s a common bird, it has a lot of resilience and I wanted to bring out a collection which is inspired by hunting birds and prey. I wanted to keep it dark, gothic and sexual but with very fine and intricate embroidery.”
From saris to sherwanis, the colour scheme was predominantly warm, with golds, reds, and blacks creating a fierce and funky ambience.
The power houses even took their designs onto the social media platform, posting a ‘shoefie’ backstage to give their fans a sneak peek of their stunningly unique stilettos.
What better way to kick off the fashion extravaganza!
Day 2 ~ Rahul Mishra, Gaurav Gupta
- Rahul Mishra
Showcasing a chic collection of women’s wear, Rahul merged together the concept of both sharp tailoring with luxe sportswear.
Called ‘Tree of Life’, his collection brought together gorgeous silk fabrics with simplistically elegant designs.
His wife was the muse behind the collection, to which he revealed:
“A woman is strong but at the same time she loves her femininity… she is soft but she is strong. This duality inspired me a lot.”
The strict cuts of the designs embodied feminine strength, whilst the soft fabrics of silk and cottons represented the fragility of women.
Each outfit was void of accessories, creating a simply breathtaking look.
- Gaurav Gupta
Gaurav’s collection was highly anticipated in the run up to AICW.
Entitled ‘Silt & Cipher’, his designs were inspired by ethereal fantastical elements.
Each avatar transported the catwalk into an other-worldy sphere with their lightweight cuts and stunning details.
Kalki Koechlin walked the ramp for Gaurav, who labelled her his fairy godmother. He commented:
“She’s playful, mystical and multifaceted and that’s what enchants me.”
Her silk nude gown floated gracefully down the runway, enchanting everyone with its elegance.
Using silk organzas, chiffons, georgettes, laces and taffetas, his collection was stunning in every aspect and completed the proceedings perfectly.
And the rest of the week promises to be equally as exciting!
Anju Modi Couture Preview is scheduled for Day 3, along with Monisha Jaising and Varun Bahl.
On Day 4, we can expect to see jaw dropping showcases when SBJ presents Reynu Taandon, Preciosa presents Rimple & Harpreet Narula, Heroine presents Debarun, and Rohit Bal’s collection.
Manav Gangwani and Manish Malhotra will tie up the week’s proceedings in an explosive fashion on the final day of the extravaganza.
Amazon India Couture Week 2015 has certainly upped the fashion anti for designers everywhere. Let’s hope the remaining designers left to present their collections can live up to the standard!
