Alia Bhatt's Bhansali remarks spark Nepotism Controversy f

"Alia Bhatt is the definition of pure privilege."

Alia Bhatt annoyed social media users after she remarked that Sanjay Leela Bhansali had promised her four films.

The series seven premiere of Koffee With Karan saw Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt grace the famous couch.

The episode saw Ranveer reveal that he has sex playlists and Alia share how Ranbir Kapoor proposed to her.

But some of Alia’s remarks in relation to her career sparked a nepotism discussion on social media.

Nepotism in Bollywood has been an ongoing topic of discussion as many have criticised the industry for having a preference towards those with industry relatives.

Alia Bhatt is one star who has faced a lot of criticism, given that she is the daughter of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and actress Soni Razdan.

On the show, Alia spoke about her films and her equation with Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Sanjay and Alia worked together on Gangubai Kathiawadi and it was a huge success.

In addition to a positive critical reception, the film was also appreciated by fans.

Alia was asked if she was ever rejected for a role, the actress said she did not remember. Alia also said she does not remember auditioning for a role.

This sparked outrage over her privileges.

Alia caused even more controversy when she claimed that Sanjay Leela Bhansali had promised her four films.

When Karan asked her about one thing she would change about the filmmaker, Alia replied:

“Nothing, I hope he doesn’t change me. He has done three [films] with Deepika and promised me four [films].”

Social media users criticised the privilege Alia receives and that her entitlement stops “other talented actors” from getting the chance they deserve.

One person said: “Karan Johar said the definition of talent is Alia Bhatt.

“But we all truly know that Alia Bhatt is the definition of pure privilege.”

Another wrote: “She really seems to have never struggled in her life, got everything handed over to her on a silver platter. Damn.”

One Reddit user discovered that most of Alia Bhatt’s films are helmed by Karan Johar’s company Dharma Productions. Criticising both Alia and Karan, the user wrote:

“I just went to Wikipedia to see her filmography and just realised 80% of her films are Dharma, and 90% of her hits are Dharma.

“It’s almost as if Karan is hoarding all the well-written parts for her. I mean WTF?”

Others wondered why Alia was comparing herself to Deepika Padukone.

One person said: “Desperate girl has no shame, beggar Alia Bhatt is comparing herself with legend Deepika Padukone.

“You were literally the worst Bhansali heroine till date. He promoted you so much still your movie tanked badly.”

Another commented: “Sanjay Leela Bhansali has promised to do 4 movies with Alia.

“Well lucky girl but why does she have to point out that Deepika has done only 3 movies so far with SLB.

“Why Alia always has to be so mean?”
