"Once a fat kid, always a fat kid."

Alia Bhatt recently opened up about her body image issues. She revealed the challenges she initially faced when she became an actress.

She fondly recalled her childhood, describing herself as a chubby, healthy, and happy kid who felt no insecurities about her appearance.

However, entering Bollywood shifted her perspective dramatically.

Alia admitted that when she began her acting career, she did not fit the conventional image of a heroine.

This change in environment led to criticism and mockery regarding her weight and looks.

This took a toll on her self-esteem. She described how her confidence waned as she navigated the pressures of the industry.

Alia Bhatt explained: “I didn’t think there was anything wrong with the way I looked.

“I have struggled with body image issues since then. No matter how much weight I lost, I always struggled.”

Friends would encourage her to relax and enjoy food, but she often found herself haunted by the thought.

Alia continued: “‘Once a fat kid, always a fat kid’ – I used to say that in my head.

“No matter how much weight I lost.”

A significant turning point came during her pregnancy when Alia experienced a profound shift in her outlook.

She said: “I had so much respect for my body and was so enamoured with what it could do.

“It made me realise that even though I was in this business, I would never be hard on myself about the way I look or certain extra kilos over here or a certain bloated belly over there.”

This revelation liberated her from the anxieties about weight and body image that had plagued her for years.

During the interview, Alia Bhatt also shared a light-hearted story from her wedding day.

The actress recalled how her makeup artist, Puneet B Saini, requested two hours for her makeup.

Alia, surprised at the time, replied: “You’ve lost it, especially on my wedding day.

“I’m not giving you two hours because I want to chill!”

Alia explained that her attention span, influenced by her ADD, makes lengthy makeup sessions unappealing.

Typically, she aims to spend no more than 45 minutes in the makeup chair, favouring efficiency over glam.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Alia Bhatt will next be seen in JigraIt is scheduled to be released on October 11, 2024.
