Akshay Kumar has claimed that the industry enjoys his failures.

The actor has not had a smooth run at the box office in recent years.

Several of his films have been disasters, with approximately two out of his last 10 films becoming box office hits.

This led to rumours as to whether Akshay was indeed committed to his work.

The star is known for his strict work regime, starting and finishing his work shifts at specific times.

In an interview, Akshay Kumar said: “I don’t want to get into the details of who started this [wrong perception], because it starts from somewhere.

“It starts from somebody who doesn’t like you. That’s how it starts, they pick one or two things.

“Now remember what they used to say earlier?

“They used to say, ‘Akshay’s films don’t take long – he comes on time and leaves on time’.

“I used to do 17 films at a time, and they used to be released within eight months. That’s how efficient I was considered.

“But now, when films don’t work, they say that I don’t devote enough time.

“People love seeing when my films don’t work. People love seeing it – they’re happy.

“I’ve seen it myself. Till today, in 33-34 years, I have never spoken ill of anyone.

“I always feel that you have no right to take anybody’s name and put the person down.

“I would like to give this advice to people: don’t put others down. I see it in my industry.

“I just fail to understand why you all are abusing each other. There is so much energy that is just going to waste.”

Akshay Kumar also revealed the advice from his late father-in-law Rajesh Khanna.

In the late 1960s to early 1970s, Rajesh was the undisputed superstar in Bollywood, enjoying 15 consecutive solo hits from 1969 to 1971.

However, he then experienced a box office drop, which many put down to poor decisions and the rise of Amitabh Bachchan.

Akshay explained: “I don’t let anything enter my head. I have seen a lot of people fall. I have heard many stories.

“My father-in-law has taught me so much because he had seen the biggest success in life and then he saw a complete drop. I have heard stories.

“What I do is, I take knowledge from other people, and I realise that these things are just to be kept at a one-hand’s distance.

“My job is to just keep working.

“In my career, I have given 16-18 hits continuously, then continuously I’ve given 10-12 flops.

“I don’t take it seriously. I’ve known this since the beginning of my career. It is not yours.

“It is a crown that will be passed on to others. Today, it’s with you, next Friday it’ll be with somebody else.

“Success is an amazing thing, but don’t take it seriously – it’ll run.”

Akshay’s previous films including Samrat Prithviraj (2022), Selfiee (2023) and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (2024) have all been box-office failures.

The star’s latest movie, Sarfira, was released on July 12, 2024. It experienced a low opening.

Sarfira has currently earned just over Rs. 2 crores (£1 million) at the box office.

In other news, Akshay Kumar was forced to miss Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding after he tested positive for Covid-19.
