Akshay Kumar has landed a historical milestone in his film career, as he receives his first ever National Film Award. Winning the ‘Best Actor’ category, he received the award on 3rd May 2017.
The Bollywood actor won the National Film Award for his role as Commander Rustom Pavri in the 2016 crime thriller Rustom.
He attended the event with wife Twinkle Khanna and their 14-year-old son Aarav. Akshay dressed in a handsome black bandhgala, created by designer Manish Malhotra.
After receiving the special award, the actor quickly took to social media to give his reaction. In a humble tweet, he expressed his happiness and gratitude to his fans:

In April 2017, the organisers behind the National Film Awards announced that Akshay Kumar would receive Best Actor.
The news initially sparked criticism from some. Some took to social media to give their thoughts on whether the actor deserved it.
Despite this backlash, Akshay has remained unfazed. Concerned more about his exciting achievement, he explained:
“Nothing can taint this moment. Our country and its people deserve their voice and their opinion. Just like I know I deserve this award.”
“I’ve never felt more proud of my efforts than I do today. No amount of cyber bashing will ever change this day for me.”
And throughout the event, Akshay appeared in understandably good spirits. He also had a picture taken with Telugu filmmaking legend Kasinathuni Viswanath.

Now with the National Film Award under his belt, Akshay Kumar will continue filming for his upcoming movies. He’s set to have a busy 2017 ahead.
He will soon star in Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and also the highly-anticipated 2.0, which also stars Rajinikanth and Amy Jackson.
