"There were 40-45 sharks around me."
Akshay Kumar opened up about a time when he had a near-death experience on the sets of Blue (2009).
One of Bollywood’s first high-octane thrillers, Akshay starred in the film as Aarav Malhotra.
Blue followed the story of a group of people entering the sea to find lost treasure.
The freak incident involving Akshay Kumar occurred when the actor was in the water without oxygen tanks.
Sharks were also closing in on Akshay, and he lost a significant amount of blood in the process.
Akshay recalled: “I hit my head on a sunken ship and got injured 150 feet underwater, and the blood oozed out.
“I was in a daze. I could’ve been dead. I could’ve been eaten by one of the sharks.
“There were 40-45 sharks around me.
“Two sharks actually smelled the blood and started coming my way.
“One of the sharks chased me all the way to the top of the ocean as I swam back to safety.
“I realised sharks are not a threat to you until they feel threatened.”
Although Blue had huge expectations attached to it, the film was declared a flop at the box office.
The movie also featured Sanjay Dutt (Sagar ‘Sethji’ Singh), Zayed Khan (Sameer ‘Sam’ Singh) and Lara Dutta (Mahima ‘Mona’ Singhania).
Blue also had a cameo appearance by Katrina Kaif, who starred as Nikita ‘Nikki’ Malhotra.
Famous Australian singer Kylie Minogue made a special appearance in the song ‘Chiggy Wiggy‘ . Sonu Nigam and Suzanne D’Mello also sang it with her.
Meanwhile, director Anees Bazmee recently confirmed that Akshay Kumar will not be seen in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.
Anees said: “No, Akshay is not a part of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. I am dying to work with him.
“But unfortunately, I have not been able to script a film where we could work together.”
“In future, certainly yes.”
On the work front, Akshay, known for churning out several films within short spaces of time has many forthcoming projects lined up.
These include Sarfira, Singham Again, Welcome to the Jungle, Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat, Hera Pheri 3, Khel Khel Mein and Sky Force.
The star will next star in Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, scheduled to be released on April 10, 2024.
Along with Akshay Kumar, film also stars Tiger Shroff, Sonakshi Sinha, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Alaya F and Manushi Chhillar.
