Akshay convinced Snoop to wear Indian clothes
The collaboration of two very different superstars from two very huge industries comes together for the Bollywood film – Singh is Kiing.
Akshay Kumar the renowned Bollywood actor and Snoop Dogg the notoriously well known hip-hop star, have teamed up to create the song and video for the title song ‘Singh is Kiing.’ The Bhangra/Hip Hop track was recorded with RDB (Rhythm Dhol and Bass) the Bhangra production team from the UK.
This is Snoop’s first ever venture into the world of Bollywood and Akshay is very pleased to have a star like Snoop join him in the video. To the point that Akshay convinced Snoop to wear Indian clothes and a turban for the video. This is a major step for Snoop who is very well known for being particular about his attire. However, Snoop equally has shown eagerness to support Akshay to get a break into Bollywood with the aim appeal further to Indian audiences. As he aims to tour and perfrom in India.
It’s reported that the video for the song has cost of over £240,000 and was shot in Chicago, USA. Akshay said that he wanted to do something different by combining Hip Hop with traditional Indian Bhangra music and the opportunity to work with Snoop has helped him achieve this history-making initiative. He said they had a lot of fun making this history for Bollywood. The collaboration has excited Bhangra and Hip Hop music lovers alike giving them a chance to experience of a more realisitc fusion of the two opposites sides of the globe musically.
Singh is Kiing releases in August 2008 which stars Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles. The objective of the film is to change the stereotypical image of Punjabi Singh’s in Bollywood, to a more leading and stronger role, compared to secondary and more comical depiction in past Bollywood films.

The song has gained a huge fan base and has had airplay worldwide, drumming-up immense appeal for the collaboration and film. The song and video opens up further possibilities for two stars in future projects too.
