Meanwhile, Rajkumar Hirani is one of Bollywood’s most acclaimed filmmakers with a glistening track record.
Whenever the two have joined forces professionally, the results have been outstanding.
It has been reported that Aamir and Rajkumar will collaborate again on a biopic about Dadasaheb Phalke.
Dadasaheb Phalke is a legendary icon who is credited with creating the Indian film industry.
Phalke produced and directed the first Indian film, which was a silent feature titled Raja Harishchandra (1913).
The filmmaker died on February 16, 1944, at the age of 73. The highest accolade of Indian cinema is named after him.
The first recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke award was Devika Rani in 1969.
Over the years, other winners have included Lata Mangeshkar, Dev Anand, and Waheeda Rehman, with the latest recipient being Mithun Chakraborty.
Aamir Khan will reportedly play Phalke in Rajkumar Hirani’s upcoming film.
Confirming the development, Indian film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted:
“Aamir Khan and director Rajkumar Hirani are joining forces once again, this time for a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema.
“Set against the backdrop of India’s independence struggle, the film will chronicle the extraordinary journey of the man who laid the foundation of Indian cinema.
“With a script that has been in the works for four years, Aamir Khan is set to begin prep soon after the release of Sitaare Zameen Par.
“Shoot begins October 2025.”

The script has been penned by Rajkumar Hirani, Abhijat Joshi, Hindukush Bharadwaj, and Avishkar Bharadwaj.
VFX studios from Los Angeles have apparently created AI designs to recreate the period of the film.
Phalke’s grandson, Chandrashekhar Srikrishna Pusalkar, has allegedly supported the project and has provided insights and anecdotes from his grandfather’s life.
The news elicited positive responses from excited fans.
One person said: “This sounds incredible! Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani taking on the story of Dadasaheb Phalke is cinematic gold.
“With years of script work behind it and the backdrop of India’s freedom struggle, this could be something truly special.”
“Can’t wait for October 2025.”
Another fan enthused: “The pair of Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir Khan will once again create a stir in the theatres.”
Aamir and Rajkumar first worked together on 3 Idiots (2009), which became one of the most enduring classics of Bollywood.
Rajkumar next directed Aamir in the social drama PK (2014), which was the highest-grossing Hindi film of that year.
On the work front, Rajkumar’s latest directorial was Dunki (2023), starring Shah Rukh Khan.
Aamir Khan is currently gearing up for Sitaare Zameen Par.
The film is scheduled to be released on June 20, 2025.
