"This could be seen as a campaign of rape."

Two men who subjected a girl to a “campaign of rape” have been jailed for a combined 40 years.

Khurum Raziq and Nasar Hussain repeatedly abused the girl between 2003 and 2006, in the Kirklees area of West Yorkshire.

Leeds Crown Court heard that Raziq was introduced to the victim in 2003 when she was 12-years-old. Within weeks, he raped her multiple times.

David Brook QC, prosecuting, said the girl had been groomed by Raziq, plying her with alcohol, drugs and cigarettes.

The victim described being “brainwashed”, believing he was her boyfriend. In court, she gave accounts of having sex with him in his car, his bedroom and an alleyway in Batley.

After his arrest, the pair continued to engage in sexual activity after he was released on bail, but no further police action was taken.

The girl was later “passed around” and sexually abused by more than 50 men.

On one occasion, she was taken to Middlesbrough and “abused by many men when she was locked in a room for three days”.

In 2005, Hussain was introduced to the girl when she was 14 and proceeded to groom her before committing sexual offences.

He had picked her up from school on a few occasions while she was wearing her uniform.

The court heard how the victim “thought these guys cared for me and loved me”.

Raziq was convicted of eight counts of rape.

Hussain was found guilty of three counts of rape.

Judge Marson QC said the victim was “deliberately targeted because of her age and vulnerability”.

He added: “This could be seen as a campaign of rape.”

Judge Marson told the men they had shown no remorse and the victim had suffered psychological harm.

West Yorkshire Police said she was “thoroughly abused and exploited by predatory males who treated her in the most appalling fashion”.

Khurum Raziq, aged 40, of Heckmondwike, was jailed for 22 years.

Nasar Hussain, aged 44, of Dewsbury, was jailed for 18 years.

The case was part of a long-running enquiry by West Yorkshire Police into non recent child sexual abuse in North Kirklees.

Working alongside partners, the force hopes to punish the perpetrators behind sexual abuse of young girls in the North Kirklees area between 1999 and 2012.

DCI Ian Thornes of Kirklees CID said: “The victim, in this case, was a young girl with a completely normal life whose childhood was ripped away from the moment she was first introduced to Khurum Raziq.

“That contact led her to be being lured into a world in which she was thoroughly abused and exploited by predatory males who treated her in the most appalling fashion.

“Hussain even picked her up from school while she was in school uniform, making it very clear he knew she was just a child who he was committing serious sexual offences against.”

He added:

“We welcome the strong sentences given to these men and want to commend the bravery of the victim in this case.”

“By supporting a prosecution and giving evidence she has forced these men to answer for what they did and played her part in making it clear that those involved in the sexual abuse of young females will be brought to justice and receive lengthy sentences.

“We continue to urge victims to come forwards and can promise all reports will be thoroughly and sensitively investigated.”
