"The success of a dance depends on the choreography."
Bosco-Caesar have cemented themselves in the top league of Bollywood choreographers.
The duo comprises Bosco Martis and Caesar Gonsalves.
Since beginning their career with Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Mission Kashmir (2000), they have masterminded dance sequences in over 75 films.
When asked about the duo’s approach to choreography, Caesar said:
“We work on the creative aspects together. We listen to a song and exchange ideas.
“But while shooting, there’s only one of us.”
This creativity is the driving force behind the pair’s longevity.
The duo parted ways in 2016 but confirmed that they would not change their brand.
Paying tribute to them, DESIblitz proudly presents 10 songs that are choreographed by Bosco-Caesar.
Mauja Hi Mauja – Jab We Met (2007)
In 2000, Hrithik Roshan debuted both as a fantastic actor and a wonderful dancer in Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai.
Three years later, another fresh-faced talent entered the scene in the form of Shahid Kapoor.
A great actor and a dancer to give Hrithik a run for his money, Shahid garnered masses of appreciation with Jab We Met.
One of the songs, ‘Mauja Hi Mauja’ presents Shahid as Aditya Dharamraj Kashyap.
Aditya dances merrily with Geet Kaur Dhillon (Kareena Kapoor Khan).
The routine is energetic and enthusiastic, which are facets of Bosco-Caesar’s talent.
A fan comments: “These songs boost your mood instantly.”
Zara Zara Touch Me – Race (2008)
In the glistening world of Bollywood, few actresses glimmer with as much sex appeal and dance ability as Katrina Kaif.
‘Zara Zara Touch Me’ from Race presents her at her very best.
Katrina plays Sophia, who shakes a leg with Ranvir ‘Ronny’ Singh (Saif Ali Khan).
During the routine, Katrina and Saif share an electrifying chemistry.
Katrina also contorts and swings her body, showing off her curves and exuding confidence and charisma.
A comment on YouTube reads: “Katrina was on top of her game at that time.
“Killer body and fantastic dancer. Her screen presence made sure the audience were going to come in to the theatre near or far.”
The dance routine that was cultivated by the choreographers certainly played a role in this appreciation.
Zoobi Doobi – 3 Idiots (2009)
Millions of Bollywood fans love 3 Idiots for not only its groundbreaking story but also for its evergreen songs
One of the songs is ‘Zoobi Doobi’ which occurs in a fantasy of Pia Sahastrabuddhe (Kareena Kapoor Khan).
The number displays Pia dancing in different situations with Rancho (Aamir Khan).
Kareena and Aamir show what talented dancers they are.
Bosco-Caesar creates a great, humorous viewing experience with the choreography.
Talking about the song, Kareena declares: “It’s my first romantic song with Aamir.
“So, I’m going to give it my best!”
Kareena certainly did, and the result is there for all to see.
Senorita – Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)
This fun-filled, groovy number marked a turning point in Bosco-Caesar’s career.
‘Senorita’ takes place in Spain during a bachelor trip.
It features Arjun Saluja (Hrithik Roshan), Kabir Dewan (Abhay Deol), and Imran Qureshi (Farhan Akhtar).
They all dance with civilians on the streets, trying to impress a Spanish dancer (Concha Montero).
The routine includes slick leg movement, as well as maximum energy.
For this song, the choreographer duo won a National Award in 2012.
If Bosco-Caesar weren’t leading choreographers in Bollywood before ‘Senorita’, they definitely were after it.
Zaalima – Raees (2017)
In Raees, Shah Rukh Khan inhabits the world of Raees Aslam.
The film also stars Mahira Khan as Aasiya Qazi, Raees’ wife.
‘Zaalima’ showcases the couple romancing in different settings.
These include a desert and water. Known for his gentile romance, SRK is at his gallant best.
Mahira also looks resplendent. ‘Zaalima’ arguably does not have too many complex movements.
However, the choreography is more intense in that it conveys a lot of emotion through little action.
The chemistry between SRK and Mahira is extraordinary, which is brought to life by the routine.
Jai Jai Shiv Shankar – War (2019)
As previously mentioned, Hrithik Roshan is a dancer for the ages.
In ‘Jai Jai Shiv Shankar’, Major Kabir Dhaliwal joins forces with Khalid Rahmani (Tiger Shroff).
Fans are in for a special treat as Hrithik and Tiger go head-to-head in a celebratory dance face-off.
Bosco sheds light on the choreography for this song:
“With Tiger, we had a lot of acrobats, and with Hrithik, we kept it very cool and focused on the swag.
“We had to try and keep that balance of coolness and energy so I hope that comes across in the song.
“I didn’t want the dance to look desperate. I wanted it to look more chilled out.”
The coolness and style certainly communicate via the chartbuster, which is a highlight of War.
Jhoome Jo Pathaan – Pathaan (2023)
Pathaan is a historic blockbuster of Bollywood.
As well as its racy plot and jaw-dropping action, a unique selling point of the film is the exquisite dance sequences.
This song plays during the film’s ending credit and shows Pathaan (Shah Rukh Khan) and Dr Rubina ‘Rubai’ Mohsin.
They groove together in a showcase of elegance and brashness.
Bosco delves into working with SRK: “It’s beautiful to choreograph the ‘Baadshah of Bollywood’.
“It’s not such a difficult task. He just puts everything in.
“And you feel like you want to give him your best.
“You can’t compromise or fall flat on that. That’s how you celebrate someone who has been entertaining us for over three decades.”
Tere Pyaar Mein – Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar (2023)
In their first onscreen outing together, Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor share a glorious chemistry.
This is emboldened in no uncertain terms in ‘Tere Pyaar Mein’.
The song depicts Rohan ‘Mickey’ Arora (Ranbir) and Nisha ‘Tinni’ Malhotra (Shraddha) on beaches.
They celebrate their attraction in a gripping display by Bosco-Caesar.
The choreography helps the two leads to develop an infectious rhythm within each other.
A fan cannot contain their excitement at their chemistry, saying:
“I want to see Ranbir and Shraddha in another film. They killed it in Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar.”
The film was lauded for its easy-to-follow plot and feel-good presentation.
There is no denying that the routine of ‘Tere Pyaar Mein’ helped that.
Ishq Jaisa Kuch – Fighter (2024)
Sticking to the theme of fresh onscreen pairings, we arrive at Siddharth Anand’s Fighter.
The film unites Hrithik Roshan (Shamsher ‘Patty’ Pathania) and Deepika Padukone (Minal ‘Minni’ Rathore).
These are two of Indian cinema’s finest actors each with a staggering body of work.
Naturally, viewers expected great chemistry. That’s exactly what we get in ‘Ishq Jaisa Kuch’.
Taking place on a beach, Patty and Minni groove sensually to the beats.
Deepika presents her gorgeous figure, while Hrithik bares his famous abs.
The unison of the steps is captivating and fun to see.
It shows what potential Hrithik and Deepika have as an onscreen couple.
Sher Khul Gaye – Fighter (2024)
Continuing with Fighter, we come to ‘Sher Khul Gaye’.
This time, Rakesh ‘Rocky’ Jaisingh (Anil Kapoor) joins Patty and Minni.
The fighter pilots celebrate a victory they have just achieved.
It’s refreshing to see a veteran actor like Anil perform the steps with just as much charisma as Hrithik and Deepika.
Bosco remarks on Hrithik’s support during Fighter:
“Hrithik and I have worked on many songs together, so he understands and values the amount of effort that I put in as a choreographer.
“He sees the hard work and dedication.”
So he supported me because he knows that the success of a dance depends on the choreography and the choreographers.”
This tremendous rapport translates into the routine of ‘Sher Khul Gaye’ which is enrapturing and sublime to watch.
For over 20 years, Bosco-Caesar has given several Bollywood songs strength and charisma.
They are talented choreographers, capable of telling a story through dance itself.
Even though the individual pair have parted ways, Bosco-Caesar still stands as a legendary brand of choreography.
For that, their work should be celebrated and respected.
