10 Qualities British Asian Women look for in Men

"Open-mindedness is such a unique quality"

British Asian women are looking for partners who are compatible with their culture, beliefs, and values.

South Asian culture places a lot of emphasis on family, tradition, and respect.

Therefore, it is essential that a partner possesses qualities that align with these qualities.

We spoke to British Asian women to see what qualities they look for in a partner and the reasons why these characteristics are so important to them.

Respect

10 Qualities British Asian Women look for in Men

Respect is a crucial aspect of British and South Asian culture, and it is highly valued by British Asian women.

A respectful partner is someone who listens to their partner’s opinions, treats them with kindness and consideration, and values their feelings.

In Desi culture, respect is not only limited to the partner but also extends to their family and community.

Therefore, a respectful partner is someone who shows respect to their partner’s family and friends. Speaking to 23-year-old Manisha from Birmingham, she said:

“Respect is important because it shows that the person values and cares for you.

“It’s a fundamental aspect of any relationship, and without it, a relationship can’t thrive.”

29-year-old Aisha added her opinion:

“Respect is essential in a partner. If he sees the value in me, my family, and my friends then it’s a win-win.

“Respect means you care for that person, you cherish them and you’re actively working to make things work without being oblivious to things, which most men are.”

Likewise, 33-year-old Zara pointed out:

“I don’t care if the man I date is Asian or not. If they have respect then it means they’re willing to learn about my life, beliefs and culture, which is important for a long-lasting relationship.”

As it always has been, being respectful is one of the biggest characteristics British Asian women look for in men.

Family Man

10 Qualities British Asian Women look for in Men

Family is at the heart of many cultures and long-lasting relationships.

A family-oriented partner is someone who understands the importance of family and is willing to prioritise it.

They are supportive of their partner’s family and are willing to build a strong relationship with them.

We spoke to Joy from Coventry who explained:

“Family is everything in our culture. Having a partner who understands that is crucial.

“I want someone who is willing to be a part of my family and who values the relationships I have with them.”

27-year-old Sunita added:

“Having a partner who wants to know your family and cousins is such a good trait.

“I don’t want a guy who thinks the woman has to be integrated into his family, it works both ways now.”

31-year-old Rina also stated:

“I want a partner who is not only committed to me but also committed to building a future with me and my family.

“So many couples have arguments when it comes to their in-laws.

“But, for me, having a massive family means you have all the support in the world and someone who doesn’t see the benefits of that is not for me.

“It’s also a red flag because if a man doesn’t see the value in family, how is he going to handle one of his own?”

Responsible

A responsible partner is someone who takes ownership of their actions, is reliable and is committed to their partner and their relationship.

They are also financially responsible and understand the importance of stability in a relationship.

According to Ria from London:

“Responsibility is crucial because it shows that the person is mature and capable of handling a committed relationship.

“It also shows that they are capable of taking care of themselves and their partner.”

30-year-old Nisha, also from London, revealed:

“A responsible partner is someone who takes ownership of their actions and is accountable for their mistakes.

“It shows that they are mature and can handle challenges in life.”

Finally, Kavita from Leeds stated:

“Responsibility is important because it reflects a person’s character and values.

“I want a partner who is responsible not only towards me but also towards their own life and future.

“Men need to understand that taking care of themselves and their possessions is so key. Small things like knowing how to cook, clean and stay on top of things is a massive turn-on.”

Honesty

10 Qualities British Asian Women look for in Men

Honesty is a vital quality in any relationship, and it is especially important among British Asians.

A partner who is honest and transparent is someone who can be trusted, and trust is an essential aspect of any relationship.

Honesty also reflects a person’s integrity and values. We spoke to 28-year-old Priya who expressed:

“Honesty is essential because it forms the foundation of a relationship.”

“I want someone who is truthful with me and can communicate openly and honestly. It builds trust and allows us to be vulnerable with each other.”

32-year-old Anjali also gave us her view:

“Being honest is the foundation of any good relationship. A lot of Asian guys take honesty for granted and don’t see it as a big deal.

“Even telling small white lies is a massive red flag. A man who owns what he says is what I love to see.”

Educated

10 Qualities British Asian Women look for in Men

Whilst some may think acquiring a partner with a good education is an “outdated” quality, it’s still important within South Asian culture.

Education is seen as a sign of intelligence, ambition, and success.

However, some girls did explain that someone who is educated doesn’t necessarily mean going to university and taking the traditional route.

For example, 30-year-old Zeena from Rochdale highlighted:

Education is important because it shows that the person is ambitious and has goals. It also shows that they are willing to work hard to achieve those goals.

“However, I don’t always mean book smart when it comes to this. Someone can be educated outside of school or university.

“If they have their head screwed on and have unique interests, then that’s educated to me.”

26-year-old Leena also shared her opinion:

“Education is important to me because it shows that the person is committed to personal growth and development.

“I do like a guy who’s gone to university because it shows his motivation and dedication to an interest of his.

“But, I would say not going to university isn’t a dealbreaker. As long as they’re not immature then it’s fine.”

Lastly, 29-year-old Neha added:

“A partner with a good education can bring a lot of benefits to the relationship, including intellectual stimulation and better financial stability.”

Open-Minded

10 Qualities British Asian Women look for in Men

Open-mindedness is an essential quality for any relationship.

South Asian culture can be traditional, and an open-minded partner is someone who is willing to understand and respect those traditions but also doesn’t enforce anything.

33-year-old Roshni maintained:

“Open-mindedness is such a unique quality because it allows for growth and learning.

“In our culture, there are many traditions and customs that we follow, and having a partner who understands that but isn’t stuck in the past is great.

“Girls didn’t have that much freedom in the past so I want a man who lets me be me.”

30-year-old Naina interestingly stated:

“A lot of Asian men don’t want their partners to be too independent because their masculinity gets hurt.

“But it’s much more attractive when a man doesn’t take his pride too seriously and is open-minded to how you are as a person.”

Compassionate

10 Qualities British Asian Women look for in Men

A compassionate partner is someone who is kind, caring, and empathetic towards their partner and others. They are also willing to help others and show generosity towards those in need.

One of the reasons why this quality is adored by British Asian women was described by Sheena from Nottingham:

“Compassion is important because it shows that the person cares about others and is willing to help those in need.

“It also says a lot about a man when they understand any issues you’re going through and listen to see how they can make you feel better.”

31-year-old Pooja also shared:

“A compassionate partner is someone who can provide emotional support and comfort during difficult times.

“It’s a quality that is highly valued in not only South Asian culture, but in general as well.”

Likewise, 28-year-old Reena explained:

“Compassion shows me that a man is emotionally intelligent. If he sits there and is invested in your conversation and problems, but provides any support you need, it’s such a warm feeling.

“A lot of guys don’t have that trait and it’s one that most girls look for, I think.”

Supportive

10 Qualities British Asian Women look for in Men

Support is crucial in any relationship. A supportive partner is someone who is there through thick and thin.

They provide emotional, mental, and physical support and are willing to stand by their partner’s side during difficult times.

One of the reasons why this is a vital quality was pointed out by 34-year-old Meera:

“Support is important because it shows that the person is willing to be there for you no matter what.

“It also shows that they are committed to the relationship and willing to put in the effort to make it work.”

“I want a partner who can be my rock and support me through life’s ups and downs.”

“And, not just be there but I want to see them making an effort to make me feel better like flowers or making dinner.

“Of course, that’s a two-way street, but I feel most women are supportive naturally.”

Maya from London also gave us her view:

“Supportiveness is essential because sometimes in life, you only have your partner to rely on.

“Friends can be busy, family isn’t always around so the one person you should always be able to turn to is your partner.

“I’ve been in relationships before where I’ve dropped everything to support my guy, but I’ve never really felt that happen to me. Hopefully one day!”

Communicative

10 Qualities British Asian Women look for in Men

A communicative partner is someone who is willing to express their thoughts, feelings, and emotions openly and honestly.

They are also willing to listen and understand their partner’s perspective.

One British Asian woman shares:

“Communication is essential because it allows us to understand each other better.

“In our culture, sometimes we can be reserved when it comes to expressing our emotions, so having a partner who is communicative and willing to share their thoughts and feelings is important.”

32-year-old Sarita from Leicester explained:

“Communication is key to any relationship. It helps to build trust and understanding.

“Not a lot of men talk, so having one that discusses his feelings, talks to you and isn’t afraid of letting his guard down is an amazing quality.”

Sonali, also from Leicester, added:

“Being communicative is not just about talking, it’s also about listening and understanding.

“A partner who can do both shows that they are invested in the relationship and want it to succeed.”

Sense of Humour

10 Qualities British Asian Women look for in Men

A partner with a good sense of humour is someone who can make their partner laugh and lighten up the mood during difficult times.

They also bring positive energy to the relationship. But, why is this a key quality for British Asian women? 23-year-old Amrita emphasised:

“A partner with a good sense of humour can bring joy and laughter to the relationship, which is important for maintaining a healthy and happy dynamic.”

Supriya from Birmingham shared her opinion:

“I don’t want a boring person who isn’t goofy or thinks they have to be a man all the time.”

“Guys feel like they have to be so macho but if they’re easygoing and can be silly with me then that’s all I ask for.

“Making each other laugh is such an overlooked quality. Attraction is important but if someone makes me laugh, then it’s a game changer.

“I’d rather be happy and laughing every day than be bored with someone who is super hot.”

British Asian women are looking for partners who align with their cultural values, beliefs, and traditions.

These qualities are crucial and reflect a person’s values, integrity, and personality.

It’s interesting to see if things change in the future and also what men would think in response to these turn-ons.
