“Akshay Kumar used me and conveniently dropped me"
Bollywood actresses add life to a film through their acting skills, beauty, sense of style, fashion and sometimes even with the way they romance their lead actors.
In many of their movies, these film stars have illustrated a rosy picture of love.
However, our curiosity reaches another high when we find out what exactly is brewing in the real lives of these Bollywood actresses.
Every day we hear on the grapevine that surfaces in B-town. It may either be genuine or spice things up by the press.
Of course, we do not know the full reality behind such rumours. If nothing, it sure keeps us entertained.
DESIblitz lists down the lovers and affairs in the life of these 10 Bollywood actresses. Some you may be aware, others may shock you.
A child artist, born talent and stupendous beauty, it seems as if late Sridevi was the industry’s child.
At the tender age of four, acting came to her naturally. There has been no looking back since then.
In numerous interviews, husband Boney Kapoor has been all praises for her un-faltered and boundless talent.
Dropping off education at a young age made her averse to noise and gatherings.
Unlike other Bollywood actresses who sought attention at all times, Sridevi, primarily, had always been an extreme introvert.
She has been part of innumerable controversies not just due to her affairs but also due to her marriage with Boney Kapoor.
The stunning actress had an untimely death on February 24, 2018, in Dubai.
Jeetendra had requested director K Raghavendra Rao to cast Sridevi in Himmatwala (1983). Sridevi, who was a Jeetendra fan, was excited about this assignment after signing.
As the film was a super hit, the bruit of their affair had become very commonly known.
However, things soon came to an end when the wife of Jeetendra, Shobha Kapoor and daughter Ekta Kapoor confronted Sridevi with the matter.
Though she always gave due credit to Jeetendra for introducing her to the Hindi film industry, this incident certainly built a gap between the two.
While shooting for the film Jaag Utha Insaan (1984), Mithun Chakraborty who was already the husband of Yogeeta Bali did not think twice before romantically indulging with Sridevi.
Sridevi, too, carried her heart on her sleeves. She was head over heels in love. To prove her love to Mithun, she went ahead and tied a rakhi to Boney Kapoor.
The two secretly got married in 1985 while Mithun was still married. Presumably, Mithun lied to Sridevi that he had divorced Yogeeta.
On cognisance of the fact, Sridevi was shattered. She decided to annul the marriage by filing for a divorce in 1988.
Mithun got back to his wife and Sridevi found comfort in the arms of Boney Kapoor.
Addressed as the ‘home breaker’, Sridevi was lucky in love but with the wrath of many.
When Boney Kapoor saw her on-screen in a Tamil movie, Boney was smitten by Sridevi at the very first sight. He decided that he wanted to cast her in his movies.
From casting her in Mr India (1987) at a much higher price and then making a trip to Switzerland just to see her, Boney Kapoor made all efforts in swooning the fabulous artist.
He always stood by her like a rock. That is how he got her love in reciprocation.
While he was married to his first wife with two kids, the news of Sridevi becoming pregnant spread like wildfire. She was six months pregnant with Jhanvi Kapoor.
The duo got married in 1996. They had completed twenty-one years of their marriage when she took her final breath in Dubai.
Madhuri Dixit – The name is enough. Blessed with an infectious smile and impeccable acting skills, this beautiful lady is a graceful dancer too.
Being a dance enthusiast since the age of three, she is a trained Kathak dancer.
The ‘Ek do Teen’ (Tezaab: 1988) diva has swooned not just her audiences, but her co-stars as well. Thus, grabbing the limelight.
Happily married to a US-based cardiovascular surgeon since 1999, this Bollywood actress was linked up with leading men in the industry. None of which have been accepted in open.
After working in various films like Thanedaar (1990) Saajan (1991) and Khalnayak (1993), Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri became fond of each other.
If rumours are to be believed, they were serious about getting married. This was despite Dutt being a married man.
The relationship took a nasty turn after Dutt was linked with Mumbai’s serial blast case and was arrested in 1993.
Post involvement in such as serious case, this relation became history.
Anil Kapoor and Madhuri shared a sizzling chemistry on screen. After having done several films together, speculation about their affair was doing the rounds.
Based on a few reports, the duo spent a lot of time with each other on sets until one day when Anil’s wife, Sunita visited him during shooting with their kids.
Seeing Anil interact with his family, Madhuri decided not to pair up with Anil Kapoor – not just for real but reel too. This was to avoid any unnecessary drama.
On being questioned about their relationship by a leading newspaper, Madhuri had said:
“No! I wouldn’t marry someone like him. For one thing, he is too hypersensitive, I would like my husband to be cool.”
It appears that Anil Kapoor was not her cup of tea.
The ‘Dhak Dhak‘ (Beta: 1992) girl met cricketer Ajay Jadeja at a magazine shoot. She was highly impressed by him in the very first meeting.
Head over heels in love, she even recommended few directors to sign Jadeja for movies.
Madhuri was disheartened when she became aware of the match-fixing debacle that Jadeja was tangled in.
The match-fixing saga eventually ended their relationship.
Dr Shriram Madhav Nene
Usually, when top-notch Bollywood actresses decide to tie a knot, they normally break many hearts.
Something similar happened when Madhuri got married. The wedding was fixed by parents from both sides. It was a private ceremony in the United States.
Surprisingly, Dr Shriram Madhav Nene was unaware of his fiance’s stardom until they got engaged. Madhuri always wanted her to-be husband to love her for who she was and not her stardom.
The couple stayed in the USA for twelve years before moving back to Mumbai.
Madhuri keeps herself busy in the television industry whereas Dr Nene is serving in a municipal hospital.
Her manager Rikku Rakesh Nath in an interview rubbished scandals involving Jackie Shroff, Mithun Chakraborthy and Sanjay Dutt.
He said producers of Madhuri had created these rumours.
The dotting mom, Amrita Singh that we saw in 2 States (2014) has given the Bollywood film industry some great hits.
Born to a Punjabi mum and a Punjabi Jat father, Singh entered Bollywood with a huge success in Betaab (1983).
The series of chartbusters did not end with it. As a Bollywood actress whose acting skills are inexplicable, she quit films after 1993 only to make a comeback in 2002.
Along with films, Amrita has proven herself in the television industry also.
The Saif-Amrita marriage is familiar to all of us and needs no explanation. She leads a happy life with her kids and a bunch of amazing offers in hand.
Quite a gutsy and bold woman, we must say.
The first movie together of Sunny Deol and Amrita Singh, Betaab was as hit as their pairing. The couple bonded not just on-screen but off-screen too.
The chemistry was reflected in their succeeding films as well. The fearless Amrita wanted the world to know that she is in love. A different story was brewing at Sunny’s end.
The mother of Amrita was unhappy with her daughter’s relationship. She soon found out that Sunny had married a girl named Pooja Singh who stayed in London with his family.
On realising this fact, Amrita ended the relationship immediately.
Bollywood actresses and Indian cricketers share a vague bond. We have come across numerous such couples. Amrita also familiar as Dinky was not away from this Cricbuzz.
She found her warmth in former Indian cricket all-rounder, Ravi Shastri.
The beautiful actress was found cheering her man during many matches. They had even posed for CineBlitz magazine, publicising their engagement.
However, things went haywire for the duo as Ravi Shastri did not want an actress wife. Whereas Amrita wanted to focus on her career.
Saif Ali Khan
Saif Ali Khan was struggling to make his mark in Bollywood. Meanwhile, Amrita was an established actress in the industry.
They met at a photoshoot where Saif could not lay his eyes off the blunt and charming Amrita. The actress initially ignored Saif.
Though once they interacted with each other, the two hit it off. They knew they could speak about anything and everything under the sky.
Irrespective of the huge 12-year age gap and despite their parents’ disapproval, the headstrong couple in love got married.
Love and marriage did not stay strong as they got divorced after thirteen years. They have two kids together.
Saif then went on to marry for a second time with Kareena Kapoor in 2012.
The phenomenal actress, Shilpa Shetty gained popularity with her appearance in the crime-thriller Baazigar (1993).
She had been modelling since her teenage days only to then bag a big break alongside Shah Rukh Khan.
Her acting skills were well recognised as she took back home many awards and critical appreciation.
A trained Bharatnatyam dancer, Shilpa got an opportunity to judge a few dance reality shows on television as well.
She was part of innumerable controversies during her stint in Celebrity Big Brother (2007) but eventually her determination and patience won, and so did she.
She is one of the very few Bollywood actresses who went for plastic surgery and never felt the need to hide it. We are all born with imperfections, aren’t we?
A mother of two, she is a second wife of renowned businessman Raj Kundra.
She also made headlines for her affairs too.
Akshay Kumar was popular for his casanova image amongst the ladies. Shilpa Shetty was one of them.
Akshay and Shilpa started romancing during the shoot of Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994).
Akshay allegedly began a relationship with Twinkle Khanna (now his wife) while he was dating Shilpa. Both Shilpa and Twinkle were best of friends.
Speaking to the media, Shilpa Shetty expressed her dismay:
“Akshay Kumar used me and conveniently dropped me after he found someone else. The only person, I was upset with, was him.”
It was certainly a difficult time for Shilpa and one which no woman wants to go through.
According to a news report, Ratna Sinha, wife of director Anubhav Sinha bashed him by outrightly giving an interview against the rumoured ‘good friends’ who got close while shooting for Dus (2005).
Based on a report published in the Mirror UK, Shilpa confessed to a friend that she was in love with Anubhav Sinha – a married man, with two kids.
Shilpa’s parents were in disapproval due to the social stigma of being with a married man. Hence, she chose to walk out.
However, in response to the same, Anubhav had asked Shilpa to abstain from commenting on his married life and stay away.
Raj Kundra was amongst the richest businessmen in Britain. After a failed relationship with his first wife, he went through a disturbing divorce.
Initially, Raj and Shilpa got acquainted while promoting for Shilpa’s perfume brand S2. Their interactions were solely restricted to business.
Gradually the fondness for each other grew between the two. As the bond became stronger with each passing day, they took the plunge and announced their marriage.
Going strong since 2009, the couple is living happily ever after with two kids.
Acknowledged as the Rangeela (1995) girl in the film industry, Urmila had been acting as a child artist.
She has acted in Malayalam, Telugu, Hindi and Marathi films. Although she got leading roles, her films could not always grab the attention of critics or audiences.
She became an overnight star. With Rangeela doing exceptionally well at the box-office, people recognised her true calibre.
She also paved her way into the political field but decided to quit as a consequence of internal politics.
The portrayal of her dedication and patience is well understood in her affairs also.
Ram Gopal Varma
Most people from the 90s would know that Urmila and Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) were synonymous.
RGV truly explored and displayed the hidden talent of Urmila. This was when other directors in the industry were intrigued to cast her for their films.
Urmila refrained from working with those directors with whom RGV did not have a great rapport.
He had an indifferent relationship with many in the industry. That gravely receded her choices. Nonetheless, we see her loyalty here.
Gossip mongers say that RGV divorced his then-wife because she had slapped Urmila for causing hindrance in their marriage.
In his book, Guns and Thighs: The Story of My Life (2015), RGV on Urmila comments:
“I very selfishly always wanted her to be larger than life even in real life.”
On RGV’s dismissal of the relationship, her devotion to one such director may have ruined her career.
Mohsin Akhtar Mir
They often say, ‘Out of sight is out of mind.’ That is apparently why Urmila kept her marriage to Mohsin Akhtar Mir a low-key affair.
Mohsin is from a business family that hails from Kashmir. During his younger days, he came to Mumbai, trying his hand at modelling.
The common link between the two happens to be eminent designer Manish Malhotra.
They met for the first time at his niece’s wedding, with Urmila alluring him there. He left no stone unturned to sweep her off her feet. Finally, she gave in.
The 10-year age gap found no space in their happily wedded life.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Often addressed as the world’s most beautiful woman, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan took up modelling assignments during her teenage days.
The beautiful damsel reveals to the press that modelling happened to her accidentally.
She went a step further to participate in Miss India in 1994 and reached the final stretch by bagging the title of Miss World during the same year.
The face of copious national and international brands, Rai’s performances have got critical appreciation in Tamil and Hindi movies.
Leading a fortunate life with Abhishek Bachchan, the light-eyed beauty has been in the limelight in the past due to her affairs.
Rajiv Mulchandani got close to Aishwarya during their initial days of modelling. The duo even did photo-shoots together.
Aishwarya had never disclosed her alleged relationship with Rajiv in public. There were rumours that once Aishwarya headed for fame in the industry, she chose to move on in life.
Having said that, Aishwarya had somewhat of a catfight with Manisha Koirala.
Manisha had claimed that Rajiv had dumped Aishwarya for Manisha. Aishwarya in response had rejected the claims made by Manisha in an interview with Showcase during 1999.
Love blossomed between Salman Khan and Aishwarya on the sets of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
In 2001, the relationship turned sour and the two parted ways. Talking to DNA India, Rai spoke on her excruciatingly painful relationship with Salman.
She says that after having stood by him during his worst times, all she received was verbal, physical and emotional abuse.
Describing the relationship as the ‘nightmare in her life’, the couple parted ways. She also swore never to work with Salman ever again.
Salman, on the other hand, accepted a few accusations put forth against him, but not physically hurting the lady.
This controversial affair indeed kept the fans hooked.
Post her broken chords with Salman, the emotional actress found solace in her Kyun! Ho Gaya Na (2004) co-star, Vivek Oberoi.
Allegedly, the drunken Salman disappointed with the closeness of Aishwarya to Vivek, gave life-threatening calls to Vivek.
To please the stunning lady, Vivek called a press conference to humiliate Salman and expose his acts.
Unfortunately, this did not go well with Aishwarya as she had kept their relationship under the wraps.
Thereafter, this relationship came to an end – not just the romance between the duo but also Vivek’s career.
Abhishek himself had a few failed relationships with Bollywood actresses.
He revealed to the Hindustan Times that he and Aishwarya fell for each other while shooting for Umrao Jaan (2006) by Muzaffar Ali.
The couple had been good friends since their initial movies together.
During the promotions of Mani Ratnam’s Guru (2007), Abhishek proposed to the love of his life. They tied the knot in 2007.
The royal couple continues to paint the town red while portraying their care, understanding and concern for each other.
The dusky beauty, Lara Dutta made India proud with her triumph in the Miss Universe pageant that took place in 2000.
She is eminent for her persuasive speaking abilities. As compared to other Bollywood actresses, Lara is excessively image-conscious.
Her popular films include Masti (2004), No Entry (2005) and Bhagam Bhag (2006) to name a few.
Married to professional tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi, the critically acclaimed actress has had her share of heartbreaks.
Lara met the Bhutanese model, Kelly Dorji during their modelling days. They both helped each other in climbing the ladder of success.
However, Kelly was not lucky in this aspect as he failed to establish a mark in the industry.
Post Lara’s success in Bollywood, it got difficult for both of them to keep up with their differences and insecurities.
Having dated for almost nine years, the couple went their separate ways for good.
After a disrupted break up with Kelly Dorji, Lara and actor Dino Morea were together for a short span.
There was a buzz in B-town that Lara got uncomfortable with Dino getting close to his ex, Nandita Mahtani.
After apparently witnessing Dino getting intimate with Nandita, Lara made an exit from a party that Shah Rukh Khan was hosting at his house Mannat.
This was enough to enrage Lara to break her ties with Dino.
Excel into their respective fields, Lara and Mahesh Bhupathi fell for each other in no time.
Mahesh was married to model Shvetha Jaishankar, while he met Lara. The two had professionally met in Mahesh’s sports management company.
Conversing with Savvy Magazine, Shvetha divulges that she had invited Lara as a client in the sports management company, which was run by the couple.
As fate may have it, Lara was supposedly responsible to break the 7-year old marriage of Mahesh and Shvetha.
The duo got married in 2011 and have a cute daughter – Saira. They keep fans entertained through their Instagram posts.
We have reached an era where Bollywood actresses focus on completing their formal education before setting their foot in the industry.
Taapsee Pannu follows suit. She has completed her graduation in Computer Science Engineering from New Delhi.
The gullible and honest actress tried her luck in a Telugu musical drama, Jhummandi Naadam (2010). This was when she was preparing for her MBA entrance exam. It clicked and how!
Taking every experience with a pinch of salt, Taapsee is a strong individual. She always has the determination to move on and find the next best thing that’s meant for her.
Shedding light on relationships, the impulsive actress mentions:
“I have dated a South Indian. Also, I have never dated a star and will never date one and that I can write and give you on a stamp paper.
“I am clear that there can be only one star in the relationship and that’s me. I personally don’t think it can work out between an actor and an actress.”
However, contrary to what she says, there have been reports linking her with several actors.
Taapsee started her career in the Telugu film industry where she met the Tamil actor, Mahat Raghavendra.
Reportedly, Mahat used to frequently show up at sets to spend time with her. Mahat confirming this describes himself as “Taapsee’s-ex.”
Divulging further, he said that they had dated for two years.
Taapsee maintaining her ‘just friends’ stance, has never publicly accepted her relationship with Mahat.
A badminton ace and gold medalist from the European Games in 2015, Mathias Boe belongs to Denmark. In 2012, at the Summer Olympics, he also won a silver medal.
Mathias and Taapsee met during 2014 during the opening of a badminton tournament in India. Whilst Taapsee was a brand ambassador of a team, Mathias was a player for another side.
Mathias happens to be a friend of Shagun Pannu, Taapsee’s sister.
The duo has been going strong since then. When asked about her wedding plans, Taapsee is quite sure that she will marry when ready to have kids.
In a candid conversation with Bollywood life, the mother of Taapsee expresses:
“There’s no pressure on her to get married. I do talk about it sometimes, but even I don’t believe in the institution of marriage much. So, it’s up to her when she wants to do it.”
We love such cool parents, don’t we?
A struggling model, Kriti Sanon got her first break in the Telugu psychological thriller 1:Nenokkadine (2014).
This is when she came to notice and had the opportunity to exhibit her talent in Bollywood.
Many Bollywood actresses had skipped education and tried their luck in the industry. Belonging to a non-filmy background, Kriti and her family seem to hold a different opinion on the same.
She holds a B-tech degree in Electronics and Telecommunication engineering.
She decided to complete her education just in case movies did not work out.
The face of many international brands, this trained Kathak dancer has been associated with Bollywood actors.
Kriti and Gaurav met during their modelling days. It was then that they became ‘good friends.’
An interview with Arora revealed that they are both busy in their respective lives and not in touch anymore.
In 2016, Gaurav opened up, dismissing the rumours, and claiming that they were hurtful.
He believes that the two modelling together resulted in the link-up. It certainly seems that the huge amount of speculation was very bothersome for Gaurav.
Sushant Singh Rajput
There was tittle-tattle in B-town that Kriti was dating her Raabta (2017) co-star late Sushant Singh Rajput. Following the norm, the pair did not open up about their relationship in public.
Often spotted at events, parties and casual meetings, their togetherness reflected sheer closeness for each other.
There was hearsay that Sushant helped Kriti’s sister get assignments in Bollywood also.
The reports state that there were differences between the couple, which arose due to lack of time as a result of their busy careers. Hence, they called it quits.
As a newcomer in Bollywood, Disha Patani has been killing it with her bold appeal and workout regimes on social media.
She started her modelling career in 2013. The first runner up of Femina Miss India 2013, has impressed audiences with her acting skills.
Disha has played a role with Jackie Chan in a Chinese film named Kung Fu Yoga (2017). She has also received appreciation for her roles in Telegu and Hindi cinema.
The sexy lady has launched an official mobile app to stay connected with her fans. She is the second Bollywood actress to do so, first being Sonam Kapoor.
Link ups being a part of B-town, Disha is no exception to it.
The TV celebrity, Parth Samthaan is famous for his role in the television series Kaisi Yeh Yaariyan (2014-2018).
He was a household name when he got into a relationship with Disha. She was a struggling model in those days.
Within a year of their relationship, reportedly Disha understood about Parth’s fling with Vikas Gupta of Bigg Boss 11 (2017-2018) fame.
She found intimate pictures of the two. That is where the relationship came to a closure.
The allegedly romantic couple of Tiger Shroff and Disha was first seen together in the video for the song ‘Befikra’ (2016). Their next assignment was for the movie Baaghi 2 (2018).
Ever since, the paparazzi have been going ga-ga regarding their visit to movies, parties, restaurants and vacations.
Disha is close to the Shroffs, claiming them to be her only friends in the industry.
On confronting Disha the reason for not accepting their relationship in public, the actress replies that she’s been trying hard to impress Tiger.
Further, she adds: “He’s shy and I’m shy so nobody’s breaking the ice.”
Well, we only hope Tiger accepts Disha’s proposal soon.
Often observed that due to hyping a situation, it personally affects these Bollywood actresses a great deal.
Sustaining the celebrity status is not easy. Sometimes, to escape the radar of judgement, these Bollywood actresses maintain silence about their private lives.
Notwithstanding other constraints, love prevails as always.
