"These stories deserve recognition"
Zee Entertainment has expanded its presence in Europe with the launch of Zee TV in Germany, featuring 24/7 German subtitles, alongside the inaugural Zee Community Excellence Awards.
The launch marks a significant milestone for the broadcaster’s European growth strategy and aims to make Indian content more accessible to German-speaking audiences.
Delivered in partnership with TV1, the subtitling solution allows viewers to enjoy Indian programming in its original language while following German subtitles.
The move strengthens Zee’s position in the German market, where it already operates Zee One, a channel that broadcasts fully German-dubbed content.
The addition of Zee TV provides audiences with another way to experience Indian storytelling and further strengthens cultural links between India and Europe.
The Berlin launch event highlighted the breadth of Zee’s global entertainment portfolio, including ZEE5, which offers more than 2,000 hours of German-dubbed content, over 500 original productions and plans to release a further 130 original titles during the next 12 months.
Guests also heard about the success of Zee Music Company, which recorded more than one billion streams last year, demonstrating the scale of Zee’s entertainment offering across television, digital and music platforms.
The event brought together leading figures from diplomacy, media and entertainment for a panel discussion titled Stories That Connect – Bridging Cultures Through Media, Dialogue, and Ideas.
Participants included India’s Ambassador to Germany, H.E. Ajit Gupte, producer Mathias Schwerbrock and journalist Ewald König. The discussion explored how storytelling can encourage greater cultural understanding and strengthen international connections.

It was moderated by Parul Goel, Zee Entertainment Territory Head – Europe.
Alongside the channel launch, Zee hosted its first-ever Zee Community Excellence Awards, recognising individuals and organisations making a positive impact across a range of sectors within Germany’s Indian community.
The award recipients included:
- Arts & Culture Award – Anjana Singh
- Community Leadership Award – Manohar Prabhu
- Young Achiever Award – Amit Somani
- Media & Entertainment Award – Tom Luther
- Social Impact Award – Vilwanathan Krishnamurthy
- Business Leader Award – Barjinder Singh Sodhi
- Special Recognition Award – Franziska Giffey
The awards celebrated the achievements of community leaders and changemakers while highlighting the diversity and contributions of the Indian diaspora in Germany.
Speaking at the event, Parul Goel said: “The launch of Zee TV with German subtitles allows us to bring Indian storytelling closer to audiences across Europe.
“The Zee Community Excellence Awards are a celebration of the inspiring journeys and achievements of the Indian diaspora in Germany.”
“These stories deserve recognition, and through this platform, we aim to honour their contributions while strengthening the cultural connection between India and Europe.”
The evening also featured a range of cultural performances, including a sword performance and a musical showcase by singer Vishal, reflecting the richness and diversity of Indian culture.
The Berlin launch reinforced Zee’s ambition to combine entertainment with cultural celebration and community engagement as it continues to grow its footprint across Europe.
