“She has already filed for divorce in court."
In a surprising development, Bollywood actress and politician Urmila Matondkar has reportedly filed for divorce from her husband, businessman-model Mohsin Akhtar Mir.
They had been married for eight years.
According to reports, the decision to end their marriage comes after ongoing speculation about the strain in their relationship.
A source said: “After careful consideration, Urmila has decided to call it quits on her marriage with Mohsin.
“She has already filed for divorce in court.
“While the reason behind the separation is still not known, the divorce isn’t happening on mutual terms.”
Reports indicate that the separation was not mutual, and the divorce filing took place in May 2024.
Urmila and Mohsin tied the knot on February 4, 2016, in an intimate ceremony held at the actress’ residence in Mumbai.
The wedding was a low-key affair, attended only by close friends and family.
The duo first met in 2014 at a wedding hosted by Manish Malhotra for his niece.
The meeting sparked a connection that led to their marriage two years later.
The couple kept their relationship private, avoiding media attention.
People considered their marriage one of Bollywood’s quieter relationships.
Urmila Matondkar and Mohsin Akhtar Mir’s interfaith marriage made headlines.
The age gap between them also sparked public interest as Mohsin is 10 years younger than Urmila.
He also featured in films such as Luck By Chance (2009), Mumbai Mast Kallander (2011), and BA Pass (2012).
In an earlier interview, Urmila revealed that she faced online trolling for marrying a Muslim man from Kashmir.
She said, “He was called a terrorist, a Pakistani…
“They even altered my Wikipedia page. It was beyond belief.”
Urmila expressed her disbelief at the extent of the attacks.
The news of the divorce has shocked fans as there had been no prior public indications of trouble in their marriage.
A fan said:
“Urmila’s divorce is the testimony to the fact that love stories do not always have a beautiful ending.”
Another said: “This is the situation of most of the love marriages.”
Urmila Matondkar, who shifted her focus to politics in recent years after her successful acting career, had previously expressed her happiness in her personal life.
“I am at my best when I am either acting or dancing.
“I can feel the calling to get back to the big screen or OTT.”
The 50-year-old actress last appeared in Blackmail.
The actress is yet to officially release a statement.
