"We were planning our future together"
Punjabi actor turned activist Deep Sidhu died during a tragic road accident on February 15, 2022.
According to reports, he was accompanied by his girlfriend Reena Rai during the fatal accident.
The 37-year-old actor was said to be travelling from Delhi to Punjab when the incident occurred near Pipli toll plaza in Kharkhoda.
Deep’s Scorpio car hit a truck on Kundli-Manesar-Palwal expressway in Haryana‘s Sonipat district.
According to the police, Deep Sidhu had sustained serious head injuries in the accident.
Reena Rai was on the left side of the car which was not heavily damaged.
After the accident, the airbag on Reena’s side opened immediately, saving her life.
A police officer said: “A female friend accompanying him was taken to a hospital where her condition was stable.”
Soon after the news of his demise surfaced on the internet, pictures of Deep and his girlfriend went viral on social media.
A day before his death, Reena had shared a picture with Deep on her Instagram Story as they celebrated Valentine’s Day together.
According to reports, Reena Rai is a US-based actress and model.
She was also Deep Sidhu’s co-star in the Punjabi film Rang Panjab. Reena has also shared that her upcoming film is titled Desi starring the late actor.
In 2021, Deep had taken to Instagram to express his love for Reena.

Posting a romantic picture, the late actor wrote:
“You stood by when the whole world was against, protected me, held my respect, gave me strength, prayed for my cause and freedom but what truly has touched my heart and soul when you paused your life for me.
“You being there means a lot for me, your love and support is beyond any description.
“You are beyond my words and I truly feel blessed to have a soul like you in my life, I just want to say I love you.”
After the news of the actor’s demise surfaced on the internet, Reena took to Instagram and shared a series of photos alongside an emotional note.

The actress and model wrote:
“I’m broken, I’m dead inside, please come back to your soulmate which you promised me that you won’t leave me in any lifetime.
“I love you my Jaan, my soul boy, you are my heartbeat. We were planning our future together and now you are gone.
“Soulmates don’t leave each other and I’ll see you on the other side Jaan.”
Deep Sidhu was arrested after being accused of playing a part in the conspiracy to hoist a Sikh flag at Red Fort on Republic Day.
Following his arrest in February 2021, the police had claimed he intended to “create violence and disregard our national flag”.
It had also told a Delhi court that Deep was “the main rioter and instigator” of the Red Fort incident and that he had been seen in a video with “swords, sticks and flags”.
The court, however, had granted him bail in the case saying that the prosecution had sought to make an example of him since he was popular.
He was side-lined by farmer unions in wake of the Republic Day violence.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi expressed his grief over the death of the actor.
In a tweet, he wrote: “Deeply saddened to learn about the unfortunate demise of renowned actor and social activist, #DeepSidhu.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family and fans.”
