Fans continue to await the third season of Mirzapur and it is believed to be on its way sooner rather than later.
Since first being released on Amazon Prime Video in 2018, Mirzapur has become one of the most popular shows on the streaming platform.
Mirzapur is developed by Karan Anshuman, who wrote the script alongside Puneet Krishna and Vineet Krishna.
The popular web series revolves around two individuals in Mirzapur, millionaire mafia don Akhandanand Tripathi and upstanding lawyer Ramakant Pandit.
They cross paths after an incident at a wedding procession.
It snowballs into a game of ambition, power and greed that threatens the fabric of the lawless city, with both families getting involved.
Gang wars and illegal weapon cartels are prevalent in the backyard of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Mirzapur stars Pankaj Tripathi and Ali Fazal.
While details of the third season have not been revealed, it is expected to be even grittier.
The animosity between Akhandanand and Govind Pandit has become aggressive following the death of Munna Tripathy, with both unwilling to stop.
As both set their sights on the throne of Mirzapur, expect things to turn gruesome quickly.
According to the creators, season three was supposed to have been released but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, production was delayed.
It is now believed to be on the way, with some stars announcing that they have completed filming.
Rasika Dugal, who plays Beena Tripathi, announced she had finished filming season three in October 2022.
In a statement, she said: “The Mirzapur cast and crew are like family – it’s almost like we have seen each other grow over seasons.
“I am going to miss being on the sets of Mirzapur and collaborating with my favourite people.
“And eventually, of course, I am so looking forward to the response and reactions this season will get from its immensely loyal fans.”
Vijay Varma, who joined the show in season two, also announced he had completed filming for season three.
While many stars will reprise their roles, reports have suggested that new characters will be introduced in the third season.
A release date has not officially been announced but it is heavily speculated that it will premiere at the end of 2022, with some reports suggesting that it could be as early as the end of November 2022.
But it is a possibility that its premiere comes in 2023.
The third season of Mirzapur is also expected to have 10 episodes as did the second season.
Mirzapur has been nominated for several awards, with its second season winning ‘Best Drama Series (Critics)’ at the Filmfare OTT Awards.
It may only be a matter of time before the show returns to screens.
