"Mr Khan is yet to see the film."
In 2025, Aamir Khan made a cameo appearance as Dahaa in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie.
The film also starred Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Soubin Shahir, and Shruti Haasan.
Coolie was released on August 14, 2025, and earned over Rs 600 crore at the box office.
Despite this, reports circulated on social media suggesting that Aamir Khan regretted appearing in the film.
Aamir has signed an unrelated action superhero film to be directed by Lokesh, which will star the actor in the lead role.
Some of these reports also claimed that the upcoming film has been shelved.
On September 14, 2025, Aamir Khan Productions released a statement on social media, clarifying Aamir’s stance on Coolie.
The company said: “On behalf of Mr Aamir Khan, team AKP would like to categorically state that Mr Khan has given no interview regarding the film Coolie.
“There seems to be a fake interview doing the rounds of social media, where Mr Khan is supposed to have criticised the film Coolie.
“This is a fake interview.
“Mr Khan has great respect and regard for all the work that he does, and does not speak lightly about his work.
“The fact is that Mr Khan is yet to see the film.
“Mr Lokesh was very keen to be present when Mr Khan would watch the film.
“And, as a result, for one reason or the other, it’s not happened as yet.
“Coolie’s remarkable success speaks volumes about the vision and hard work of everyone involved.
“Please be aware that this interview and any such news is false.”
As for Aamir and Lokesh’s new project together, no official confirmation exists to suggest that the film has definitely been shelved.
Meanwhile, Aamir Khan recently criticised the practice of actors demanding producers pay for their personal assistance and staff.
He said: “When you’re a very big star and are earning millions, aren’t you dignified enough to bear your expenses yourself?
“I find that very strange. It’s very sad and very harmful for the industry.
“As a team player, you should think, ‘The film should bear minimum burden because of me’.
“That’s what being a team player is.”
On the work front, apart from the new film with Lokesh, Aamir Khan has several projects lined up.
He has produced Lahore 1947, starring Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, and Shabana Azmi.
The actor is also set to play Dadasaheb Phalke in his biopic, directed by Rajkumar Hirani.
