"there's a lot of back and forth that happens"
Virat Kohli has spoken warmly about his bond with Rohit Sharma ahead of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s clash with Mumbai Indians on April 7, 2025.
The two icons of Indian cricket are set to face off in what could be a defining match in the 2025 IPL.
While Mumbai Indians have traditionally dominated the league, the team has faltered this season. In contrast, Kohli’s RCB have shown early promise as they chase their first title.
Ahead of the match, Kohli shared some intricate details about his relationship with Sharma over the past 15 years.
In a video posted by RCB, Kohli said:
“I think it’s a very natural thing to take place when you play with someone for so long and you share so much of your insight of the game initially, your learning from each other, you’re kind of growing in your careers at probably the same time, and you share all kind of queries and questions.
“So there’s a lot of back and forth that happens and also the fact that, you know, we worked very closely in terms of the leadership for the team.
“So there were always ideas discussed and more or less, we would end up on the same page in terms of the gut feel of that situation.
“There is a trust factor and do the job for the team.”
There has long been speculation about tension between the two senior players.
But Kohli dismissed those rumours, saying neither of them expected to be part of Indian cricket for so long.

Reflecting on their time together, he said:
“We have definitely enjoyed our time playing together.”
“So we were able to make our careers long because when we were young, as I said, it was not certain that we would end up playing for 15 years for India.
“The journey for so long and consistently, very grateful and very happy for all the memories, all the moments that we’ve shared and continue to do so.”
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were pivotal for India in their 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy triumphs.
RCB and MI meet on April 7 in a clash that will not just be about points but pride.
