“They told me, ‘No, no, you have to like her'."
During the promotion of his recent release Baby John, Varun Dhawan opened up about an incident from his childhood involving Shraddha Kapoor.
Varun recalled that when they were eight years old, Shraddha took him to a mountain and confessed her love for him.
But being a young boy uninterested in romance, Varun rejected her proposal.
Two years later, when Shraddha invited him to her 10th birthday party, Varun found himself in another sticky situation.
He revealed that Shraddha wore a frock and looked adorable.
The actor recalled that there were three or four boys at the party who were in love with her.
While Varun focused on a jumping bag, the other boys approached him, demanding to know why he didn’t reciprocate Shraddha’s feelings.
Varun revealed: “They told me, ‘No, no, you have to like her’.”
The actor added that a fight broke out when he disagreed. The boys even ganged up on him, prompting Varun to defend himself.
Laughing, Varun remarked: “It was a very filmy scene!”
Varun Dhawan also recalled another amusing memory from their teenage years.
It was when Shraddha was around 15 or 16 and had become quite stunning.
During a dandiya night at her school, Varun accidentally hit someone with a dandiya stick and tried to hide.
Amid the chaos, he saw Shraddha walking towards him, looking beautiful, which left him momentarily awestruck.
Reflecting on that moment, Varun joked: “That was when I realised maybe I’d made a mistake when we were kids.”
The actor concluded by saying that despite their childhood antics, they eventually rekindled their friendship and went on to become close companions.
Fans were amused at the hilarious turn of events following Shraddha’s proposal.

Their professional relationship has only strengthened their bond, with Varun even making a cameo in Shraddha’s horror-comedy Stree 2.

Varun is married to Natasha Dalal, and the couple recently welcomed their daughter Lara in June 2024.
