A Conservative Party candidate has been suspended pending an investigation into racist posts from a social media account he is associated with.

Will Jackson had been selected as the Conservative candidate for North Harrow in the upcoming elections on May 7.

The party has now withdrawn support for his campaign pending an investigation.

The suspension follows a series of posts linked to an account associated with Jackson on X. The posts, sent over several months, include offensive comments directed at South Asian MPs.

One post told Adnan Hussain he should “bully [Mr Adnan] back to Pakistan”. Another suggested individuals “should be deported” and referred to them as “Islamist scum”.

Another post replied to Zarah Sultana’s “abolish the monarchy” tweet. The tweet read:

“Abolish all foreign MPs”.

One tweet suggested Ayoub Khan should “go back to Pakistan”.

The account has since been deleted. A spokesperson for the Conservative Party described the posts as “wholly unacceptable”.

Harrow is one of the UK’s most diverse boroughs.

According to the 2021 Census, more than 45% of residents identify as Asian or Asian British. Indian residents make up the largest group at 29%.

The borough is a major hub for British Asian communities, including large Gujarati and Tamil populations. Several councillors from these communities have previously been elected under the Conservative banner.

The controversy has drawn criticism from opposition figures within the council.

David Perry, leader of the Labour opposition on Harrow Council, condemned the posts and raised concerns about the party’s vetting process.

Councillor Perry said: “For a Conservative local election candidate in North Harrow to express such openly discriminatory and racist views is unacceptable.

“Mr Jackson’s comments aimed at British people of Indian, South Asian and Islamic origin, as well as the anti-Irish, African and Eastern European sentiment have no place in Harrow.

“All political parties should have robust initial and ongoing vetting procedures of election candidates and for the local Harrow Conservative Party to overlook such open bigotry is a major concern.

“Harrow benefits from a rich cultural, religious and ethnic diversity, long may this continue.”

A Conservative Party spokesman said:

“These apparent comments are wholly unacceptable, and this individual has been suspended from the Conservative Party pending an investigation.

“Whilst this process is rightfully confidential, the party has withdrawn support from their campaign with immediate effect.”
