They eventually told each other that they wanted to get married
On Thursday, October 24, 2019, a Swedish man married an Indian woman in a traditional wedding ceremony.
The wedding took place in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and many of the locals attended the ceremony as well as the couple’s family and friends.
The family gave their blessings to the new couple while the groom followed all the elements during the procession.
He vowed to make his wife happy and to take care of her.
The woman, Preeti, is the eldest of four daughters in her family and worked for a multinational company based in Sweden.
While working there, she befriended her colleague Edwin. Over time, their friendship soon became a relationship.
They eventually told each other that they wanted to get married, however, when Preeti told her family, they were against it.
Her family became more distant from her. They told Preeti to leave her job and return to India.
Meanwhile, when Edwin explained to his family that he planned to marry Preeti, they were happy with the announcement.
But they still faced the issue that Preeti’s parents were not happy with the marriage.
Edwin’s family decided to speak to Preeti’s family in an attempt to change their mind. They told them that their daughter will be happy.
The conversation successfully convinced Preeti’s parents to approve of the marriage and began with the preparations for the ceremony.
The Swedish man and Preeti first got married at a registry office in Sweden before flying to India.
When they arrived, Preeti’s parents organised the pre-wedding festivities.
On October 24, 2019, the couple wore traditional wedding outfits for their ceremony.
Marriages between foreign nationals and Indians are on the rise. While the wedding between Edwin and Preeti stemmed from their friendship as co-workers, many marriages start on social media.
On October 8, 2019, an American woman named Celina Lopez got married to Haryana-based Sushil Saini.
They were married a year and a half after getting to know each other on Facebook.
Sushil had come across Celina’s Facebook profile and decided to send her a friend request. She accepted and the two regularly chatted to one another.
Their friendship gradually turned into a long-distance relationship. After, Sushil decided to propose to her. They had a traditional Indian procession.
On her relationship with Sushil, Celina explained that she has always admired Indian culture.
Celina chose to have an Indian wedding ceremony as she wanted to experience the process. She said that wedding rituals in America are completely different in India.
