"I was worried whether it would be a yes."
Siddharth spoke about his “secret” engagement to Aditi Rao Hydari.
In 2024, the couple announced their engagement on Instagram.
Detailing the event, Siddharth also stressed the difference between privacy and secrecy.
He said: “Many told me we had done this (get engaged) in secret.
“There’s a big difference between doing something privately with family and in secret.
“The ones whom we didn’t invite think it’s a secret, but the ones who were there know it was private.
“These questions on how long it took (for her to say yes) shouldn’t be asked.
“The end result must be either yes or no, pass or fail. I was worried whether it would be a yes – luckily I passed.
“The wedding date will depend on the elders (of the family) and what they say.
“It isn’t like a shooting date I can decide on, it’s a lifetime date.
“It will happen at the right time once they decide.”
In 2023, rumours were rife that Aditi Rao Hydari was dating Siddharth.
At the time, the star reacted to the speculation and said:
“Since I’m working I am not looking at that. People will talk and you can’t stop them from talking.
“They will do what they find interesting and I am doing what I find interesting, which is going to set.
“I think it’s ok. And the thing is as long as I have amazing work to do and working with directors I love, and as long as people accept me and watch me, I am really happy.”
On March 28, 2024, Aditi and Siddharth revealed that they were engaged.
Underneath a glorious picture in which they showed off their rings, Aditi captioned the post:
“He said yes! E. N. G. A. G. E. D.”
The post attracted several comments as many rushed to congratulate the couple for reaching this milestone.
Darsha Gupta posted a couple of heart emojis.
Rajkummar Rao said: “Yayayaya! Congratulations to you both.”
Divyansha Kaushik added: “Congratulations you guys. Wishing you only the best.”
Siddharth was previously married to Meghna Narayan. They tied the knot in 2003 and divorced in 2007.
The actor has worked extensively in Tamil, Telegu and Hindi cinema.
Within Bollywood, he is best known for playing Karan Singhania/Bhagat Singh in Rang De Basanti (2006).
Meanwhile, Aditi Rao Hydari has featured in films including Rockstar (2011), Wazir (2016) and Padmaavat (2018).
She will next star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.
The hotly anticipated show is set to premiere on Netflix on May 1, 2024.
