Shoes were thrown at politician Sobia Shahid during an event in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where its new Chief Minister was welcomed.

PTI supporters chanted slogans at Shahid, a member of the opposing PML-N.

The event was originally scheduled to commence at 11 am on February 28, 2024.

But the session eventually started around 12:30 pm due to challenges faced by lawmakers entering the Assembly Hall.

The delay was attributed to the disruption caused by numerous PTI supporters who stormed the floor.

Before the initiation of the session, disorderly scenes unfolded as a considerable crowd seized control of the gallery area.

The atmosphere escalated, with PML-N leader Sobia Shahid becoming the subject of verbal abuse.

Standing in the centre, she raised a watch, appearing to provoke the PTI supporters.

Her actions seemingly mocked Imran Khan’s arrest in the Toshakhana case.

In a calculated move, she showcased the watch in a circular motion, aiming to trigger reactions.

The PTI supporters became angry and a shoe was then thrown at Sobia Shahid.

Others followed by throwing various objects such as bottles, pens and rubbish.

They also chanted slogans against the opposition’s female lawmaker calling her a “thief”.

The public was also enraged at the uncivil display from both sides.

One user asked: “Why is she showing the watch? It is all a pre-planned drama just so PTI would look bad.”

Another said: “The media is depicting Sobia as the victim. They are not talking about how her actions are to be blamed for all of this.”

One queried: “What did she think was going to happen? Among a group of Enthusiastic supporters, she brings out a watch and expects no reaction?”

Another commented:

“What has Pakistan come to? She is mocking them with a watch and they are throwing things.”

“Illiterate and idiotic things are being shown in the media and people are gossiping over it. We are definitely a banana republic.”

A viewer noted: “You could see her face. Sobia Shahid did this on purpose just to bring out such outbursts.”

PTI supporters are being shamed for their display of violence towards a woman.

One person predicted: “Now the PTI supporters will defend this cheap display. Wait and watch.”

Another shamed: “Highly disappointing and shameful. Even children don’t do these kinds of things at school.

“And this is KP assembly for crying out loud! Not some children’s playground.”
