"This incident has tarnished the image of all MLAs."

An Indian politician has landed in hot water after he was caught appearing to watch a pornographic video on his phone during the Tripura Assembly session.

A video of the incident was captured by someone sitting near BJP MLA Jadav Lal Nath, who represents the Bagbassa constituency.

In the video, Nath is seen with his phone unlocked while the speaker and the other MLAs could be heard in the background.

Nath’s attention seems to be on the debate, however, the phone’s display could be seen by the person filming the video and it showed an explicit video.

It then cuts to Nath looking down at his phone while another explicit video was playing.

The footage went viral and unsurprisingly, the incident sparked outrage, with many calling the act “shameful”.

State Congress Birajit Sinha said:

“This incident has tarnished the image of all MLAs.

“This man should be appropriately punished. Use of mobile phones is completely prohibited in the assembly, how could he watch pornography?”

Leader of the opposition Animesh Debbarma also demanded action, saying:

“If Rahul Gandhi’s comment is insulting then this act has definitely tarnished our Prime Minister and Chief Minister’s image.

“The chair where Nath was sitting now needs to be cleansed with Ganga water. Nath should never be allowed to sit on that chair again.

“In a similar instance, Odisha Congress MLA Naba Kishore Das was suspended.

“We demand that similar action should be taken against Nath too and ban him for six years.”

After demanding an explanation, the Indian politician responded.

Claiming that he was not deliberately watching porn, Nath said the explicit videos started playing on his phone when he received a call.

The politician claimed: “I know well that using mobile phones is prohibited in the House.

“As repeated calls were coming, I picked up a call, and then obscene videos started appearing on my phone. Anyways, I then closed it.”

The MLA went on to say that he will “accept whatever decision the Chief Minister and the party president take”.

Nath added: “I did not play the video deliberately.”

Speaker Biswabandhu Sen said he is yet to receive a complaint over the issue.

He said: “I have not received any complaint. It has gone viral on social media but a lot of things go viral on social media.

“Until there is a proper complaint, I cannot comment. When that’s done, I will investigate and act according to Assembly rules.”

Meanwhile, it is reported that the BJP has summoned Jadav Lal Nath.

This comes after a porn video was played on screens at Bihar’s Patna Junction.
